Thunder Road officials have released the 2015 Thunder Road schedule of events. The schedule consists of the customary 18 events from opening day on Saturday/Sunday, May 23 through the Milk Bowl on Saturday/Sunday, October 10/11. The season is highlighted by several big events including visits from the American Canadian Tour (ACT) during the season opener on Sunday, May 23 and the Pro All-Star Series (PASS) on Mekkelsen Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 24. The American Canadian Tour Late Models will visit 11 different tracks throughout New England, New York and Quebec during the 13 event 2015 season. Officials have announced the schedule, which will kick off on Sunday, April 12 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH and crown a champion on Saturday, October 17 at Thompson Speedway in Thompson, CT. On Sunday, November 16th, the New England Antique Racers (NEAR), presented the 17th annual New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Conducted at Manelley’s Banquet Hall in South Windsor, CT., the HOF celebrates literally hundreds of feature victories, championships, and untold contributions to the sport of auto racing within the New England region. Instituted in 1998, the HOF now boasts membership of well-over 100 deserving individuals. Continue reading

The latest entry in the People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, to be held on Sat-Sun, October 04-05, 2014 at Thunder Road in Barre, VT, is Austin Theriault from Fort Kent, Maine. Theriault began his Late Model racing career with the American Canadian Tour (ACT) in 2010 as a sixteen-year-old rookie. Just like newly crowned 2014 ACT Champion, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr, from Hudson, NH, Theriault helped set the standard for the new younger generation of ACT racers in the Northeast.

Longtime veteran of Thunder Road stock car racing, Joey Laquerre of East Montpelier earned his 14th career Late Model feature win during FairPoint Communications night on Thursday, June 5. It was the first Thunder Road Thursday night event of 2014. Laquerre held off both Shawn Fleury and Brett Gervais during multiple restarts to claim the win and move into a tie for fourth on the all-time Thunder Road Late Model wins list. Continue reading

Veteran driver and perennial American Canadian Tour Championship Contender Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH is off to the best start of his ten (10) year ACT career and currently sits atop the standings. This Saturday, June 7, he will look to continue his run of three straight top fives as the tour heads to Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH for the Central Asphalt Paving 150. He will have to fend off the likes of Jimmy Hebert, most recent ACT winner Ray Parent, and a host of others. Continue reading

Nick Sweet continued his dominance of Vermont State Late Model Championship Series racing at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday night, winning the People’s United Bank 100. The defending Vermont State Champion has now won in his last three visits to the Rutland County track. His victory headlined a list of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series winners on the night that also included Jessey Mueller, Robert Gordon, and Chris LaVair. Continue reading

Wayne Helliwell, Jr., is aiming for a piece of stock car racing history at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. The two-time American-Canadian Tour champion will attempt to win a Devil’s Bowl “Grand Slam” by becoming the first driver to ever win four consecutive ACT Late Model Tour races at a single track when the series rolls in for the 101.5 The Fox Spring Green 114 on Sunday, May 4.
