SPECIAL SPONSORSHIP ANNOUNCED FOR TTOMS FOR 2019
Miller Family & TTOMS to Honor Son’s Legacy
Seekonk, Mass. (December 30, 2018): The Don Miller Family has announced it will join forces with the Tri-Track Open Modified Series (TTOMS) as a sponsor of the Series’ 2019 appearances at Claremont and Monadnock Speedways. In honor of their late son, former Modified champion, Ricky Miller, the Miller family will cover pit entry fees for all Modified drivers pre-registered for the two events.
TTOMS will visit Claremont Speedway on May 25 and Monadnock Speedway on September 14 as part of its six-race schedule. This cost-saving measure provided by the Miller Family will further help defray costs for teams participating in the Series. For several years, the Tri-Track Series has waived pit admission for all pre-registered car owners.
“True to their longtime support of auto racing, everyone benefits from this sponsorship,” said TTOMS founding partner, Dick Williams. “We are thrilled with this partnership and what it brings to our Series and so proud to have the Miller family on board.”
In tribute of Ricky’s car number, the Millers will also purchase a set of Hoosier Tires for the twelfth-place qualifier and twelfth- place finisher on each of these two race dates.
Ricky, who was a Modified standout at Claremont Speedway, died tragically at the age of 34 in 2004. He was one of the most likeable racers to have competed. Always a colorful and personable competitor, he may be best known for his 1999 Riverside Park Speedway championship- the final Modified champion of the now defunct Speedway.
Additionally, Ricky will forever stand in history as the winner of the final NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race ever held at the famed Riverside Park Speedway in Agawam, MA. Ricky is remembered not only as an accomplished racer but also as an integral part of the legendary Modified Team for the late Mario Fiore, where he served as crew chief.
The Miller family has a long history at Claremont Speedway. Don Miller,” The Golden Jet” was a multi-time track champion and is considered one of Claremont’s modified heroes.
Ricky began his racing career at the Claremont, NH, oval in the Street Stocks before moving to the Pro Stocks and ultimately the Modifieds. Miller raced his final race at Claremont before retiring from the sport.
During the 2019 season, in addition to Claremont and Monadnock, TTOMS will visit Seekonk Speedway (Jun 26 & Oct 26), Star Speedway (Jul 27) and Oxford Plains Speedway (Aug 23). Over the course of the six-event schedule, competitors will vie for over quarter of a million dollars in purse money.
Pre-registration for teams looking to compete in the six-race schedule with eligibility for the point fund and bonus plan will be open in the coming weeks and will be available online at tritrackmods.com .

GARY BALOUGH TO MEET FANS AT MOTORSPORTS 2019; HIS BOOK ‘HOT SHOE! A CHECKERED PAST: MY STORY’ WILL BE AVAILABLE; RESTORED ‘BATMOBILE’ TO BE ON DISPLAY
OAKS, PA December 28, 2018 . . . With more than 1,000 race wins to his credit, it is easy to understand how Gary Balough earned the nickname ‘Hot Shoe’. The veteran racer, still recovering from a stairway fall, will be spending the weekend with attendees at the 34th edition of the Pioneer Pole Buildings Motorsports Racecar & Trade Show Fueled by Sunoco Race Fuels Distributed by Insinger Performance.
The three day show will run from January 18 through January 20 and takes place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa.
Balough will be offering his new book “Hot Shoe! A Checkered Past: My Story” for sale. The tell-all book, written with well-known author Bones Bourcier, has proven to be a big hit as it tells the story of Balough’s outstanding racing career and the dark times spent in prison.
One of the most well-known victories for the Florida-based racer came when he drove the famous “Batmobile” to victory in the 1980 edition of the Syracuse 300 run as part of the Super Dirt Week in Syracuse, N.Y. And just one year after that Balough made his best showing in NASCAR Winston Cup in 1981 at Talladega Superspeedway before his legal issues ended plans to join an elite team the following season.
The “Batmobile” was a feat of racing engineering, created by Balough and car builder Kenny Weld. The pair and their team built one of the most advanced dirt Modified race cars ever developed. It had so dominant a win that year on the mile at Syracuse that it was made illegal and rule books were rewritten to outlaw such ideas in the future.
The 66-year-old Balough is still active as an innovator, acting as a mentor and driving coach for Stewart Friesen and Halmar Racing. This past year he directed an effort to restore the “Batmobile” back to its original form and that black No. 112 will be on display at the show.
Balough will be at Motorsports all three days to talk with fans alongside the car. Show attendees will be able to purchase a copy of his book and have it autographed by Balough.
More than 200 racecars will be on display during the three day show with many top racers and motorsports personalities appearing at the show. As usual, all autographs will be free.
More than 200 other racing vehicles representing many different segments of the sport will also be on view throughout the more than 200,000 square feet of display space.
Headlining Motorsports 2019 will be NASCAR Hall of Famers Darrell Waltrip and Ray Evernham along with Ryan Preece who will be looking to capture NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors.
There will be a large number of displays with speedways offering information on their 2019 seasons. Hardcore racing vendors will be a big part of the show and fans will have the opportunity to gain some bargains from vendors offering collectible items. A number of free industry seminars will be offered.
Also sure to be a crowd pleaser will be the “Reading Speedway Reunion.” That event will be dedicated to the memory of the great racing action THAT took place at Pa.’s Reading Fairgrounds Speedway before it closed 40 years ago. Drivers and team members who competed at that track will attend to meet the fans, and there will be a large display of vintage race cars that ran at Reading.
One of the most popular events during the three day show will be and has been the Ms. Motorsports Pageant sponsored by Aqua Duck Water Transport that will see one woman walk off with a $1,500 cash prize along with a poster deal.
Motorsports 2019 opens on Friday, January 18 at 2 p.m., then at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The show closes at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday. On Sunday, all children 12 and under are FREE with a parent.
Tickets are available daily at the door one hour before the show opens. To stay informed on the latest show news check in at www.motorsportstradeshow.com or call 609-888-3618.
A few display spaces and room for race car display remain as the show is on its way to becoming another sold out success.

Devil’s Bowl to be independently sanctioned in 2019
Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vt., will become independently sanctioned for its weekly races in 2019. Kenny Tremont Jr. (#115) and Tim LaDuc (#54), shown battling in August 2018, are among the drivers expected to chase a $5,000 championship prize next summer. (Alan Ward photo)
Devil’s Bowl Speedway to be Independently Sanctioned in 2019
More drivers to benefit from new program at Vermont track
WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has taken the next big step forward in its progression by announcing today that it will carry its own sanctioning and licensing for the 2019 season. The move will better position the half-mile Vermont dirt track for both the present and future and is the latest in a recent series of major improvements to both the physical property and infrastructure of the business.
Promoter Mike Bruno said that the move is the culmination of several years’ worth of dialogue with drivers and teams, careful data analysis, and an overall review of auto racing industry trends and projections, both locally and nationally.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway has recently been part of the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program. Bruno has worked to guarantee that in NASCAR’s absence the facility will be able to remain among the industry leaders in insurance coverage for participants while also providing a healthy championship point fund.
More drivers will receive post-season point fund money in 2019 under the new structure. The crate-engine “602” Sportsman Modified division will continue to be the headliner with a point fund paying $5,000 to the champion and bonuses to eligible drivers inside the top 15 in final point standings. The Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, and Mini Stock classes will reward the eligible drivers among the top 10 finishers, and the 500cc Mini Sprint class will offer a point fund payout for the first time with the top five drivers eligible.
Membership license fees will be similar to – or less than, in some cases – the previous fees. Competition licenses for the Sportsman Modified division will be $175 through March 31, or $200 beginning April 1. Driver licenses for the four support classes, as well as car owner licenses for all divisions, will be $100 until March 31 and $125 after. Crew member licenses will be $85 until March 31 and $100 after. License applications are available now and can be requested by emailingdevilsbowlspeedway@gmail.com.
New for 2019 will be a single-day membership license for drivers. The single-day option is just $25 for Sportsman drivers or only $15 in the support divisions, with no cap on the number of single-day purchases. All drivers, car owners, and crew who are officially licensed members will be covered by the speedway’s insurance protection in the case of accident during an event, with incident coverage matching the previous level.
“We are very excited to be an independent track in 2019,” Bruno said. “I thank NASCAR and specifically Kevin Nevalainen for the help in building our program for the past seven years, but our business model has seen major changes in the last two years and our plans have evolved. We’ve been approached to join other organizations as well, but the time is right for Devil’s Bowl to stand on its own and to try something different.”
Bruno is positive that the changes will benefit the speedway in both the short and long term.
“We’ve asked our drivers what they want, and we’ve also listened to suggestions from the ones who race with us just once or twice a year, and we think that we’ve found a good balance with our new program,” Bruno said. “We’re also going to continue to work with other tracks and sanctioning bodies in the area to help improve racing overall. We are extremely positive about the future of Devil’s Bowl.”
The full 2019 schedule of events is expected to be released in early-to-mid-January. The 2018 season will come to its official close at the Banquet of Champions at the Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington in Rutland, Vt., on Saturday, January 26.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of U.S. Route 4, Exit 2, and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.

NASCAR CUP ROOKIE OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE RYAN PREECE TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS AT PPB MOTORSPORT SHOW
OAKS, PA December 26, 2018 . . . Just a few weeks before he kicks off his quest for the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors Ryan Preece will join Darrell Waltrip and Ray Evernham at the 34th Annual edition of the Pioneer Pole Buildings Motorsports Racecar & Trade Show Fueled by Sunoco Race Fuels Distributed by Insinger Performance.
The three day show, featuring just about everything imaginable in motorsports, will take place Friday, January 18 through Sunday, January 20 at the hugely popular Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa.
Preece, a graduate of Quarter- Midgets, won the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title in 2013 after twice being runner-up in the standings. After 22 Modified Tour victories and 76 top-five finishes he took a huge chance and raised money to fund a move to NASCAR’s Xfinity Series.
After competing one year for an underfunded team, Preece risked all his funding on just three events. Driving a Joe Gibbs Toyota, he finished second to teammate Kyle Busch in his first chance in a top running car. After winning in his second effort, Gibbs granted Preece other assignments in one of his cars and he won again on NASCAR’s Xfinity series this past season on the high banks of Bristol in Tennessee.
The 27-year-old, a native of Berlin, Connecticut, recently got his big break to compete full-time next year on the Cup series. He has signed a multi-year deal to replace AJ Allmendinger as the 2019 driver of JTG Daugherty No. 47 Chevy.
“Tommy Lasorda (retired Hall of Fame coach of the Los Angeles Dodgers) says, ‘The difference between impossible and possible lies in a man’s determination,’ and I feel that JTG Daugherty has just that,” said Preece.
“It’s been many years of fighting for opportunities to compete and win races at NASCAR’s highest level, and it is nice to officially say that JTG Daugherty Racing is my new home for 2019,” reflected Preece. “I look forward to not only racing, but working with the team as well to build speed and create a name for myself here.”
Preece, and NASCAR Hall of Famers Darrell Waltrip and Ray Evernham will be crowd pleasers as they sign autographs and are interviewed during the show that will fill the giant Expo Hall.
Evernham will have a number of his very interesting race cars on display during the show. The first NASCAR Cup car that Waltrip ever drove will be at the event as well. Gary Mondschein will also have his always crowd pleasing Vintage Indy Cars as a popular attraction.
More than 200 race cars will be on display during the three days, with many top racers and motorsports personalities appearing. As usual, all autographs will be free.
One of the most popular events during the three day show has been, and will be, the Ms.
