Kyle Gero takes sixth X-Car win of the year at Speedbowl

-Scalia And Blaskey Go Back To Back

WATERFORD, CT (August 30, 2017): Kyle Gero stayed out of trouble during the first half of the feature and then turned it on for the second half of the 25-lap feature, to claim the victory, it was Gero’s sixth X-Car win of the year. After starting 21st on the grid, Gero used a lap-12 restart to muscle his Thames Electric sponsored machine into the lead. Gero held off a charging Wayne Shifflett, who finished in the runner up spot. The race would be halted early as pole sitter Bruce Sperry grabbed the lead as he was pulling away from the field something appeared to break sending Sperry into the turn-2 wall. The impact sent Sperry back across the track into the path of the #77 driven by Christopher Lee, ending his night. Rounding out the top-5 were Gero, Shifflett, Dylan Cabral, Bill Rheaume and Matt Westover. The win also added to Gero’s point lead with two Wednesday shows left.

The 20-lap Bandoleros feature was claimed by Zachary Martinez. Martinez was on a rebuilt machine as he all but destroyed his #14x last Wednesday night. Martinez started on point as the green flag waved to send off the field. Martinez was slowed only once during the feature as the caution flag waved on lap- 17 for a minor spin in turn 2. Martinez would pull away on the restart and lead all the 20-laps for the win. Rounding out the top-5 behind Martinez were PJ Evans, Tyler Alkas, Emma Monahan and Dominic Abbatiello. Monahan’s finish didn’t show how strong she was during the event. Monahan battled Martinez most of the race for the lead until a late restart where she fell back to fourth.

In the 25-lap Super X-Car event, it was Keith Scalia taking the win for the second week in a row. Scalia started 11th as the green waved for the start of the feature. Point leader Donald Berge slowed as the green waved and his Do’s Firewood and Logging sponsored #29 finally stopped on the front stretch bringing out the yellow. Berge could get pit side and get the repairs he needed to capture a tenth-place finish. The highlight of the event was when 2nd through fourth place went four-wide to battle for the second-place position that Scalia grabbed, to set up his winning move on John Yagmin.

The final event of the night was the 25-lap Legends race as Michael Blaskey also took the checkered flags on back to back weeks. Blaskey wasn’t an easy on as he had Middletown, CT’s Joey Ternullo all over his back bumper as the checkered waved. As Blaskey out muscled Colin Haley on lap-6 it was Ternullo moving into the top-5. It wasn’t until a lap-9 restart that put Ternullo onto the back bumper of Blaskey. The two would battle side by side with a handful of laps to go until Blaskey would claim the top spot for the win. Finishing third through fifth were John O’Sullivan, Peter Bennett, and Carlo Blandina.

Wil -n- Wacky Wednesday will wrap up in two weeks for their final points event of the year.

Marcello Rufrano rebounding nicely after rough start in Stafford’s SK Lights

It's not very often that a driver like Tom Fearn can back up another Late Model Championship after 18 years.

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Fresh off a 6-race rookie stint in Stafford’s SK Light Modified division in 2016 that saw him win his very first start, Marcello Rufrano was looking for big things coming into the 2017 season.  While Rufrano has put together an impressive season with 2 victories thus far behind the wheel of his #88 Wheelers Automotive machine, his season got off to the worst possible start as he got caught up in wrecks in each of the first three races and recorded finishes of 24th, 26th, and 26th in those three races. Stafford Track Championship races continue to tighten up

It's not very often that a driver like Tom Fearn can back up another Late Model Championship after 18 years.

Track Championships coming down to the wire at Stafford

(Stafford Springs, CT)—As the 2017 season at Stafford Speedway heads into September and the final 5 races of the year, the races for the track championships keep on getting tighter and tighter.  The August 25 Back 2 SK®ool program saw the point lead change hands in both the SK Modified® and SK Light divisions and the point lead in the Late Model and Limited Late Model divisions both shrunk.  The DARE Stocks were the only division that saw the point leader extend their lead. Nashville-based country duo to kick off ISM Connect 300 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff race on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 11:00 a.m.
LOUDON, N.H. – A sound all their own, platinum-selling country act Dan + Shay will bring their unique blend of country, rock and pop to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway frontstretch stage on Sunday, Sept. 24. The Nashville-based duo will perform a 45-minute pre-race concert at 11:00 a.m. prior to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series ISM Connect 300 playoff race.
“I know where I’ll be on Sunday at 11 o’clock – rocking out to Dan and Shay on our frontstretch with thousands of our awesome fans,” said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “I think what these guys bring to the table and the type of music they play will really provide something for everyone. I am immensely excited to have Dan and Shay be a part of our ISM Connect 300 pre-race festivities.”
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney began their careers after meeting in Nashville in 2012. Smyers attended Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Mellon University in his home state of Pennsylvania, while Mooney, a native of Arkansas, began his career as a solo act.
“We’re excited and honored to be a part of this event,” said Mooney. “NASCAR crowds are some of the most energetic and fun crowds we get to play for, and we know our New Hampshire fans will bring it like they always do.”
Dan + Shay’s sophomore album “Obsessed,” featuring current single “Road Trippin’,” debuted earlier this year and follows their 2014 “Where It All Began,” which made them the first new country duo in SoundScan recorded history to debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Albums Chart. The album included the debut single, “19 You + Me,” which earned RIAA Platinum certification, and their first No. 1 single, “Nothin’ Like You,” which earned RIAA Gold certification.
Racking up more than 60 million YouTube views, the pair has impressively sold more than 2.2 million digital tracks and more than 620,000 album equivalents to date, including 240 million streams. Their first single off “Obsessed,” “From The Ground Up” earned RIAA Gold certification and marked their second to hit the top of the charts. They have earned three consecutive nominations for both ACM Vocal Duo of the Year and CMA’s Vocal Duo of the Year award as well as nods for an American Country Countdown Awards, CMT Awards, and Radio Disney Music Awards.
Dan + Shay’s stop at New Hampshire Motor Speedway will be a part of their Obsessed Tour.
The concert is free to anyone with a ticket to the ISM Connect 300, while stage-front access can be attained by purchasing a Pre-Race Pit Pass. The ISM Connect 300 is the second race in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and will drop the green flag on NBCSN at 2:00 p.m.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Preview: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
Wong Set to Make Second Career NCWTS Start with MDM Motorsports

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 30, 2017)
 – This weekend, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) will travel across the border to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) located in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.  Brian Wong will pilot the No. 99 World Stage Racing Chevrolet in Sunday’s Chevrolet Silverado 250.

Wong drove the No. 41 World Stage Racing ARCA Racing Series entry for MDM Motorsports last weekend at Road America (Wis.) where he finished 14th after running near the top-10 throughout entire event. The Newport Beach, Calif., driver has one previous NCWTS start. It came at this event two years ago where Wong went on to finish 12th.
“I’m looking forward to getting back into a NASCAR Camping World Truck this weekend,” Wong said. “It’s been two years since I raced in the truck series, and to have the opportunity to drive for a winning organization like MDM Motorsports is an honor. We had a solid race at Road America together in the ARCA car. We look to build on that and score a solid finish in Sunday’s truck race.”
Canadian Tire Motorsports Park has hosted the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series annually since 2013. The 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course opened in 1961 and has hosted many different racing series, including the NASCAR Pinty’s Series.
Sunday’s NCWTS Chevrolet Silverado 250 at CTMP is scheduled for Sunday, September 3 at 2:30 p.m., ET.

LOUDON, N.H. – September NASCAR race weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway will once again provide a relentless supply of on-track racing sure to satisfy the most hearty fan’s appetite. The weekend will also deliver a wicked good time outside of the grandstands, too, as speedway officials announce the addition of a Fun Zone in the Fan Zone, the Fan Jam appreciation party, and the return of the Trackside Live Stage.
“We are very proud of having such a diverse and entertaining on-track schedule, but we want to ensure that we’re offering a deep menu of off-track options, too,” said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “Providing an experience that puts the fans first is a directive from our chairman that all of us here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway passionately strive to achieve.”
The Fun Zone will be located within the Fan Zone, across from the Turn 2 Tunnel. The Fan Zone is already a great place for fans to take their race day experiences to the next level with its giveaways, prizes, driver appearances, go-karts and sponsor activities. The new Fun Zone will only expand those opportunities, providing adults and children activities to keep busy like the Human Billiards, Giant Pop-a-Shot basketball, an airbrush tattoo station, hula hoop and jump rope stage games, a DJ, and photos ops with the KISS Forever band.
The Fan Jam appreciation party will take place on Friday, Sept. 22 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the infield near Turn 1. The party will feature $2 beer and hot dogs, as well as Touch-A-Truck and a Pit Crew Challenge, featuring teams from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
Fans will be able to get an up-close view of the Pit Stop Challenge, which will feature a four-tire stop that includes the front tire carrier, front tire changer, rear tire carrier, rear tire changer, and jack man, as well as the driver, who will apply the brakes from inside the cockpit. Five seconds will be added for any penalties with $2,000 going to the team that can complete the stop the fastest.
The NASCAR Trackside Live Stage, which made its debut in July, will also return in September. Located across from the Fan Zone between the Lite Lobster Lounge and the Turn 2 Tunnel, the Trackside Live Stage will be the place to be to see live music, entertainment and driver appearances.
September musical acts include KISS Forever, Steve Malec & the Electric Flood, Donnie Wood Band, Nick Lynch, Quarter Horse Band , Jeremy Bar-Illian Band, April Cushman Band, and the Brooks Young Band. The Trackside Live Stage will also feature a live broadcast of the UNOH 175 Camping World Truck Series race at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, the Trackside Live Show and SCC Auction from 6:00-9:30 that night, and the Trackside Live Show on Sunday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. before the ISM Connect 300 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race at 2:00 p.m.
