On Saturday night,  June 27 was the eighth event of the 2015 season at The New London Waterford Speedbowl located in Waterford CT.  Fans were welcomed to the track with the threat of a nor’ Easter hitting the entire Northeast ruining any chance of the racing taking place. Rain started the night but, after some track drying and cars qualifying feature events were set to start.

Modifieds at Claremont Speedway spice up the race card

The open wheel Modifieds return to Claremont Speedway kicked up the racing action up another notch.

Tour type Modifieds returned to Claremont Speedway for the first time in four years on Friday night, but it was the racing in the four weekly divisions that stole the show. The Late Models and Limited Sportsman both saw first time winners and a struggling Richardson motor sports team broke through for the second time in 2015.

Stafford Speedway returned to NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing action with the Valenti Modified Racing Series in the house for the 5th Annual VMRS 80.  Taking down weekly feature wins on the night were Keith Rocco in the 40-lap SK Modified® feature, Tom Fearn scored in the 30-lap Late Model feature, Joey Ferrigno in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature, Andrew Hayes in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, Tyler Trott in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature, and Devin O’Connell was the winner of the 20-lap Legend Cars feature.

DJ Shaw of Center Conway, New Hampshire raced past early leader Derek Ramstrom of West Boylston, Massachusetts and drove to his first AIM Recycling USA PASS North Super Late Model victory of the 2015 season Friday night at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH.

Leon Gonyo storms around Devil’s Bowl to win his first Modified race of the year

Leon Gonyo made short work of the 35-lap Bond Auto Parts Modified feature at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, June 26, storming to his first victory of the year at the Rutland County speed plant.  The veteran Chazy, NY stock car driver, 10 days shy of his 63rd birthday, dominated the “Hometown Heroes” race presented by Rutland Regional Medical Center, the Vermont Army National Guard, 105.3 Cat Country, and Whelen Engineering.  Other winners included Todd Stone, Robert Gordon, and Chris LaVair.

The Valenti Modified Racing Series made its second of three visits during the 2015 season to Stafford Motor Speedway for the 5th Annual VMRS 80.  Woody Pitkat took the checkered flag to make himself 2 for 2 in 2015 at Stafford Speedway in VMRS feature action.

Thursday night results from Waterford Speedbowl

New London-Waterford Speedbowl returned to action with its eighth Thursday Night Thunder program of the year and four feature race winners were recorded on the night, including one first-time victor.  T.J. Thompson of Lisbon won for the first time of the year in INEX Legend Cars action, while a trio of drivers won for the third time of the year. Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin claimed his third checkered flag in the INEX Bandoleros, Brian Norman of Clinton won his third Super X-Car race and Dave Gargaro Jr. of Cranston, RI was victorious for the third time this year in the X-Car division. Jason Corless turned the 2015 season around Thunder Road

Local driver Jason Corliss continued his resurgence after a tough start to the season by winning the North Country Federal Credit Union Late Model Trophy Dash at Thunder Road on Thursday, June 25.

 

Corliss started fourth and took the lead from Matt White on lap 29 of the 50-lap event. He then held off a late charge from sophomore competitor Josh Demers to earn his first win of the year and third of his Thunder Road Late Model career.

 

Demers finished second, while defending Champion Derrick O’Donnell caught White in the final laps for third. John Donahue, rookie Darrell Morin, Cody Blake, Phil Scott, Dave Pembroke, and Trampas Demers rounded out the top-10.

 

Wolcott’s Brendan Moodie took his second win of the season in the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen 35-lap feature. The veteran got around rookie Derek Barker just before the halfway point and held off a late charge from point leader Mike Martin for the victory.

 

Martin finished second followed by Barre driver Doug Crowningshield. Stephen Donahue, Jason Woodard, Chris Pelkey, Mike Billado, David Finck, Dylan Payea, and Caleb Nelson also earned top-10 finishes.

 

N. Montpelier’s Donny Yates was the winner of the 25-lap Allen Lumber Street Stock feature. Jaden Perry took second and Kyle Streeter earned his third straight podium finish in third, Gary Mullen, Marcel Gravel, Garry Bashaw, Chris LaForest, Patrick Tibbets, Richard Gravel, and Matthew Smith completed the top-10.

 

Thunder Road kicks off a holiday doubleheader next Thursday, July 2 with Aubuchon Hardware Night. All weekly divisions will be in action and the evening will be capped off by the biggest fireworks display in the northeast. Post time is 6:30pm.

Taunton’s Branden Dion will make his first VMRS start at Stafford on Friday night

Taunton’s Branden Dion will be making his first Stafford Motor Speedway start in the Valenti Modified Racing Series at Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday. (Credit: Stafford Motor Speedway photo.)

Armed with a new Troyer car, Taunton, MA native Branden Dion is ready to make his first start in a Valenti Modified Racing Series car at Stafford Motor Speedway this Friday night.  Dion has run the prior two races on the 2015 VMRS schedule at Seekonk and Lee and the former SK Light and current SK Modified® driver is looking forward to continuing his learning curve in the VMRS series at a track that he has a level of familiarity with behind the wheel of the #04 Triple D Racing / Doug King Builders machine.
