Maybury Material Handling renews SK and SK Light Modified contingency at Stafford

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Returning for a 3rd consecutive season, Maybury Material Handling of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts will sponsor a weekly 1st place contingency bonus of $150 for the SK Modified® division and $125 for the SK Light Modified division.  With the additional bonus the weekly SK Modified® purse moves to $1,950 to win and a total weekly purse of $9,355 while the SK Light purse moves to $600 to win with a total purse of $3,455.

“Maybury is excited to continue our relationship with Stafford Speedway and its drivers & teams for the 2018 season,” said Maybury President John Maybury.  “Racing has always had a special spot in my family so we are pleased to be able to support other racing families who share that passion.  The entire Maybury team is looking forward to another great year of racing at Stafford Speedway.”

Since joining the Stafford contingency program in 2016, Maybury Material Handling has awarded over $11,000 in combined bonuses to the SK Modified® and SK Light divisions.  With the announcement, Maybury Material Handling becomes the 6th announced contingency sponsor for the SK Modified® division and the 3rd announced contingency for the SK Light Modified division.

“John and his team at Maybury Material Handling have been long-time supporters of Stafford Speedway and short track racing,” said Stafford Speedway General Manager Mark Arute.  “It’s turning into a strong year.  We have nearly all of our contingency sponsors returning and a few new ones coming on board.  We really can’t thank Maybury and all our contingency sponsors enough.  These bonuses go straight to the teams and I know everyone appreciates their support.”

Since 1976, Maybury Material Handling has been designing, supplying, and servicing a wide variety of material handling equipment throughout New England.  Maybury provides customers from a wide range of industries with solutions to move, lift, and store their parts and products.  Maybury has become one of the largest and most successful material handling companies in the Northeast with nearly 100 employees operating as a distributor for approximately 1,300 manufacturers. Maybury supplies virtually all types of material handling equipment, including many ergonomic & productivity enhancing products.  Customers range from large manufacturers to small, family-owned businesses.  A diverse product line, knowledgeable personnel, and an emphasis on safety combine to make Maybury a recognizable leader in the material handling industry.

The SK Modified® and SK Light Modified divisions have become two of the most competitive weekly racing divisions in the Northeast with a wide array of different winners across the two classes including 7 different winners in the SK Modified® division and 9 different winners in the SK Light Modified division in 2017.  The 2018 season will be no different with nearly all drivers who competed in 2017 returning in 2018 along with an abundance of new drivers entering the SK Light division or moving up to the SK Modified® division.

The first Maybury contingency bonuses of the 2018 season will be up for grabs during Stafford Speedway’s 47th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler® Weekend on April 27-29.  The 47th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler® gets underway Friday, April 27 with a practice session for Stafford’s weekly divisions, the New England Truck Series, and Vintage All-Stars.  The practice session will be open to the public at no charge.  Action continues on Saturday, April 28 with pole qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour cars, along with heat and consolation races for Stafford’s weekly divisions, trucks, and vintage cars.  Saturday will wrap up with feature events for the Limited Late Model, Street Stock, N.E. MSHFA Riding Momentum of 2018 Induction Ceremony
  • MSHFA Induction Committee Targeting Return to March Date for 2019 Event
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 27, 2018) – The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA), still basking in the success of its milestone 30th Annual Induction Ceremony Presented by Bridgestone, is approaching the rest of the year riding considerable momentum with support from the motorsports industry, the Daytona Beach area and the media. The March 13 ceremony, held for the third consecutive year at The Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach – but for the first time, in the spring – attracted a near-capacity crowd which witnessed the expansion of the MSHFA inductee list to 244. The ceremony started and ended in style – the incomparable Mario Andretti, a 1990 MSHFA inductee, gave the evening’s keynote address as the Hall’s Honorary Chairman; four-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon was the seventh and final inductee and gave an enthusiastic acceptance speech, noting that “getting to sit next to Mario Andretti” at the head table during the night was a special thrill.

2018 MSHFA Inductees

“The whole evening was a thrill,” said MSHFA President Ron Watson, talking about the program that also inducted drag racing car builder John Buttera, Indianapolis Motor Speedway founder Carl Fisher, aviation pioneer Howard Hughes, motorcycle great Fred Merkel, legendary IndyCar team owner U.E. “Pat” Patrick and sports car great Bob Tullius.

The MSHFA induction committee is recommending to the organization’s board of directors that the 2019 induction ceremony events will be held on March 11-12, with the ceremony itself on March 12 at a site still to be determined. The induction ceremony has been held in Daytona Beach since 2016 following the hall’s relocation from Novi, Michigan.

This year’s induction ceremony moved from its previous midsummer date, with great success – and great synergy with the motorsports industry. The ceremony was part of a busy motorsports schedule in Central Florida in early March. In addition to the Bike Week At DAYTONA activities, there were IndyCars in St. Petersburg, IMSA sports cars at Sebring, the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville and the Concours D-Elegance in Amelia Island.

Media turnout reflected that synergy. The induction ceremony was covered by both regional and national outlets, including WOFL-FOX in Orlando, the Orlando Sentinel, the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Grassroots Motorsports magazine, NASCAR Wire Service, IMSA Wire Service and Autoweek magazine.

“Since our move, both timings for the ceremony have worked out very well,” Watson said. “That gives us some flexibility as we look to the future, but we have considerable momentum within our organization to stick with the spring dates. In addition, the Shores has been a fantastic host, but we are exploring other possible venues for the ceremony, as we always do.”

In addition to the induction ceremony, there were three ancillary events this year: on March 12, the Inductee Luncheon Presented by Chevrolet at the DAYTONA 500 Club in the Daytona International Speedway infield and that night’s Heroes of Horsepower Reception Presented by Pirelli at the MSHFA facility located in speedway’s Ticket and Tours Building; and on the morning of March 13, the Inductee Luncheon Presented by Toyota was held in the Rolex 24 Lounge in the speedway’s stadium.

“The bottom line is that this year’s 30th Annual Induction Ceremony Presented by Bridgestone lived up to billing, and has given us a nice boost in visibility, both locally and nationally,” Watson said. “We eagerly look to what the rest of 2018 will bring for the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.”

About the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America:
The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) held its first induction ceremony in 1989; the facility was headquartered in Novi, Michigan from 1989-2015 and relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida in 2016. The MSHFA is the only hall of fame that encompasses the full spectrum of American motorsports: cars, motorcycles, off-road, powerboats and airplanes. The overriding mission of the MSHFA is to celebrate and instill the American core values of leadership, creativity, originality, teamwork and spirit of competition embodied in motorsports. The MSHFA is operated by the nonprofit Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame of America Foundation Inc.

Challengers lining up for 2018 ACT Crown

Even though the 2018 ACT Tour racing schedule won’t start until the first race at Lee USA in NH( several drivers on that tour will be eyeing the series championship.  Alan Ward photo.)

Waterbury, VT – The American-Canadian Tour is just over two weeks away from opening its 2018 season at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 15 with the annual New Hampshire Governor’s Cup. While defending ACT Late Model Tour Champion Scott Payea enters the opener as the title frontrunner, a number of other drivers are preparing their own run at the $10,000 champion’s purse.

Williamstown, VT’s Jimmy Hebert is one of the early favorites to challenge for the 2018 championship. Hebert returned to the full ACT Late Model Tour schedule this past season in his #58VT Hebert Excavation Chevrolet and finished fourth in the final standings. He has been a contender throughout his career and will look to put it all together for the 10-race schedule.

“We’ve finished second, third, and now fourth, so obviously we’d like to contend for a championship this year,” Hebert said. “We started to hit on a few things towards the end of 2017 that gave us some pretty good speed. We’re hoping to continue that and maybe further it a little more.

“You can’t really have any mess-ups is the biggest thing,” he added. “If you have one bad race, you’re pretty much all done. You’ve got to try and find yourself in the top-5 every week and hope it will play itself out.”

Lebanon, NH’s Rich Dubeau could be another driver who makes a strong run in 2018. The 2015 ACT Rookie of the Year has made big strides since then and cracked the overall top-5 last season for the first time. He also posted the first two podium finishes for his #30VT Upper Valley Equipment Rental team.

“I definitely think we have the potential – just like probably every other team says,” Dubeau said. “You always want more. So we’ll be looking to improve just like we have every year, but we’re confident. I have an awesome group of guys around me. I owe it to those guys – they work their butts off.

“We’d love to finally get a win,” Dubeau added. “I’m pretty optimistic about Groveton (Speedway 51), especially going there twice, and I feel good about Waterford. So it’d probably be between those two tracks. Then again, we finished third at Seekonk last year, and it was one of the last places I thought we were going to run well. So I wouldn’t be surprised if we were to surprise ourselves.”

Several other drivers could play a role in the title chase before the year is over. Steuben, ME’s Rowland Robinson, Jr. had a career year in 2017 and hopes to be even better this season. New Hampshire’s Corey Mason and Bryan Mason have both entered for the full season after previously winning Late Model championships at Speedway 51. Graniteville, VT’s Chip Grenier has also filed an unexpected entry after running well in partial schedules in recent years.

All will be looking to get off to a strong start at Lee USA Speedway. The tricky 1/3-mile oval is known for testing man and machine during a 150-lap event. Those who can solve the riddle of a rapidly-changing track will be in prime position for the season ahead.

“The biggest thing at Lee is making your car last,” said Hebert, who won the 2013 event. “The track gets so slick toward the end of the race. Whoever does that the best will usually be in the winner’s circle.”

The New Hampshire Governor’s Cup on Sunday, April 15 at 1:15pm kicks off the 33rd season of ACT competition. Lee’s R&R Late Model Sportsmen and the Northeast Classic Lites are also on the card. The pits will open at 8:00am and the front gates will open at 9:00am. An optional practice will be held on Saturday, April 14.

Ronnie Williams preparing for busy NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford

The late April Spring Sizzler will see Ronnie Williams of Ellington,CT in action at Stafford at the wheel of his SK Modified.     (Stafford Speedway photo credit.)

(Stafford Springs, CT)—When the green flag falls on the 47th Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler® at Stafford Speedway on April 28-29, one of the busiest drivers in the paddock area will be Ellington native Ronnie Williams.  Williams will be splitting his weekend between the #50 SK Modified® team owned by the Skowyra family and the #21 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour car owned by the Bertuccio family.

Williams kicked off his 2018 season with a trip to New Smyrna Speedway in February for the World Series of Asphalt Racing with the Bertuccio crew to get a head start on their 2018 Whelen Modified Tour duties.  Although the team met with some mechanical gremlins during their week in Florida, Williams is excited about his prospects of recording a top-10 finish at his hometrack, Stafford Speedway, in the 200-lap NAPA Spring Sizzler®.

“Between New Smyrna and the start of the Tour season, I already have 8 races under my belt this, so I’m excited about the Spring Sizzler,” said Williams.  “We had some good speed at New Smyrna, we just didn’t get the finishes we wanted with some mechanical issues.  I’m happy that we worked out some issues down in Florida rather than at Myrtle Beach.  Myrtle Beach didn’t work out like we hoped it would so we’ll go to Thompson in search of a top-10 and then to Stafford and hope for another top-10 finish. There’s nothing better than coming to Stafford, my home track for Spring Sizzler Weekend and racing two different cars.  The Spring Sizzler is definitely a race that I’m looking forward to.”

For the 2018 season, Whelen Modified Tour teams will only be allowed to change one tire per pit stop with a maximum of three crew members over the wall for each stop.  The new pit stop rules opens things up for drivers and crew chiefs to plan some new strategy options versus past seasons.

“I think that strategy definitely helped play a role at Myrtle Beach so hopefully we’ll have the best strategy and things will work out in our favor,” said Williams.  “First things first you have to qualify well and if you’re up front you can do what the leaders do but if you’re in the back, maybe you can do something differently to help get some track position.”

In addition to the #21 ride on the Whelen Modified Tour, Williams will also be busy behind the wheel of the #50 SK Modified® that was driven to 4 wins and a second place finish in the points standings last season by Chase Dowling.  With Williams coming off a career best third place finish in the SK Modified® standings, he is eager to improve his points position and add to his career SK Modified® win total, which currently stands at 8 wins, in his 5th year of SK Modified® racing.

“Knowing the quality of the car and the Skowyra team, I’m really looking forward to the season,” said Williams.  “They had 4 wins last year and you always want to do better than the last person who drove the car.  I know what it takes to win and I know the guys we’re racing so we’re just going to go out there and do our thing.  The car will be set up well and I’m looking forward to getting some wins this season.  The guys told me if I win then I get a steak dinner so I’d like to get a couple of free dinners this year.  The equipment they have is all the best of the best and their team is unbelievable so everything falls into my hands.  If I can’t get it done then there’s a problem with me.”

One race that Williams has a big circle around on his 2018 calendar is the 5th Annual NAPA SK 5k on June 29.  Williams likes the longer distance races and his numbers in the previous four SK 5k events reflect that.  After a disappointing 23rd place finish in the inaugural SK 5k in 2014, Williams has placed 3rd, 4th, and 6th last season.  With Williams taking over the car that won the NAPA SK 5k last season, he has an extra level of excitement for the extra distance extravaganza this season.

“The NAPA SK 5k is a race that you always circle on your calendar for sure,” said Williams.  “We’ve been pretty close to winning that race in the past.  Last year the #50 team won that race with Chase [Dowling] so I’m definitely looking forward to that race but the plan is to take things one race at a time.”

The 47th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler® takes the green flag April 27-29.  Tickets for the “Greatest Race in the History of Spring” are on sale now at the Speedway Box Office.  Tickets are priced at $40.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.  Reserved seating is priced at $42.00 for all ages.  As always, Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking with overnight parking available.  Tickets are good for both Saturday and Sunday admission.  All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax. Driscoll Motorsports Photography flashes contingency in 2018 at Stafford

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that John and Andrea Driscoll of Driscoll Motorsports Photography have returned to the track’s contingency program for the 2018 season.  DMS Photography will provide a $75 bonus to each Street Stock (formerly DARE Stock) feature winner this season.  DMS Photography’s contingency bonus will push the Street Stock winner’s share from $150 up to $225.

“Driscoll Motorsports Photography has enjoyed the excitement that the former DARE Stock division has brought over the years and we’ve seen many of today’s top drivers get their start in this division,” said John and Andrea Driscoll.  “With the rebranding of the division, hopefully our contribution will help attract new teams and help all the teams stay competitive throughout the season. High stakes for PASS racers looking to win Easter Bunny 150 trophy at Hickory Speedway

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 28) – As the 13th Annual Easter Bunny 150 Presented By MyComputerCareer at Hickory Motor Speedway approaches this weekend, drivers and teams from across the country are making their annual holiday trek to the North Carolina Piedmont.  The action-packed Saturday of racing will also see the return of the SMRS Tour Modifieds to the Easter Bunny weekend.  And the state of Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model racing in the Mid-Atlantic appears to be as strong as ever.  As it has since 2006, the Easter Bunny 150 Presented By MyComputerCareer and its iconic trophyhave become bucket list material for many short track racers from across North America.

But, there is even more on the line in this year’s version of the Easter Bunny 150 Presented By MyComputerCareer.  With over 30 cars already entered, the “Bunny” has added importance this year as the top five finishers at Hickory on Saturday will each receive guaranteed starting positions for either the 45th Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in August or the inaugural Commonwealth Classic at Richmond Raceway in October.  Five-time PASS National Champion, Ben Rowe, has seen the Easter Bunny 150 since its beginning in 2006 and he believes the opportunity to get locked into Oxford or Richmond has made the stakes even higher this year.

“I think it’s just getting bigger and bigger,” says Rowe, a winner of the Easter Bunny 150 in 2009 and 2016. “Everyone in the south knows the Easter Bunny at Hickory now.  Getting locked into the Oxford 250 or Richmond is huge.  Just look at Bubba Pollard, one of the best Super Late Model racers in the country is coming to Hickory to try and get locked in, that says a lot.”

On the other end of the spectrum is rookie, Gracie Trotter.  Attempting just her fifth Super Late Model start ever, Trotter turned heads with an impressive drive last fall in the Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown at Hickory.  Coming off a history making sixth place finish at Caraway, which tied as the best finish by a female ever in PASS competition, Trotter is ready to try her hand again against the best short trackers on the continent.

“I had a great run last time I was at Hickory and in the last chance race I held off Ben Rowe for the win,” says Trotter.  “There are a lot of cars in this race so I’m going to have to stay on my toes.  I know if I stay patient, keep the nose clean, and watch ahead, I can get a good finish.”

Rowe and Trotter will be up against one of the strongest fields ever assembled on Saturday for the 13thAnnual Easter Bunny 150 Presented By MyComputerCareer as they will joined by a huge contingent of New Englanders including former winner,DJ Shaw, as well as South Carolina Clash winner, Derek Griffith, Derek Ramstrom, Bryan Kruczek, Jimmy Renfrew, Sammy Gooden, Joe Squeglia, Jr., Gabe Brown, Jake Johnson, Travis Stearns, Dennis Spencer, Jr., and Wyatt Alexander.  PASS South title contenders hope to keep the home fires burning led by Matt Craig, Kodie Conner, Tate Fogleman, Roy Hayes, Jeff Batten, Jimmy Doyle, and Jody Measamer.  Jerrick Johnson will pilot the MyComputer Career machine and will be joined by former Hickory winners, Brandon Setzer and Tyler Church, as well as Trevor Noles, “Mad Max McClaughlin,Darren Shaw, Kevin Floars and rookie, Corey Heim.  And two Canadian provinces are currently represented by Ontario’s, JP Josiasse and New Brunswick’s, Lonnie Sommerville, returning for the first time in a number of years.

The action kicks off on Friday, March 30 with optional practice for all competing divisions from 2 – 5:20 PM.  On Saturday, March 31, practice will begin at 1 PM, followed by qualifying at 4 PM, the pit party at 5:30 PM, last chance race at 6:30 PM, and features for the PASS South Super Late Models and SMRS Tour Modifieds at 7 PM

Entry forms and the complete weekend schedule for the 13th Annual Easter Bunny 150 Presented By MyComputerCareer will be posted soon on ProAllStarsSeries.com.

The Pro All Stars Series is recognized as North America’s premier sanctioning body for asphalt Super Late Models and boasts such marquee events as the legendary Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway and PASS South’s Easter Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway.  And new for the 2018, the inaugural Commonwealth Classic at Richmond Raceway.  For technical information concerning all PASS divisions please send questions to passracing@roadrunner.com. For media or marketing questions, please contact Alan Dietz at 704-231-2039 or alandietzpass@live.com
