The best weather of the season greeted a full field of enduro warriors, and hearty race fans looking to enjoy the final racing event of 2017, Octoberfast 150 at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group in Groveton, New Hampshire. Jason Kenison powered his way to the lead and scored and impressive victory.

 KENISON1

Thirty-nine cars and mini-vans lined up to take the green flag for the 150 lap grind. Drivers from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York and the Province of Quebec started three wide on the backstretch and went hammer down when the green flag waved. Several drivers took their turn at the point, but mechanical woes and on track problems changed the top five on a regular basis. Jason Kenison grabbed the lead on lap 29 and never looked back. Charlie Rockwell, James Shufelt III, Paul Hodge and Nick Gilcris all battled hard for top five finishes. Late in the race Shufelt cut a right front tire and headed to the pits. Rockwell and Hodge made contact sending them spinning in turn one. Kenison survived one last three wide scare with two laps to go, but fought his way up the middle to the checkered flag. Kenison was followed by Hodge, Rockwell, Shufelt and Nick Gilcris. Jeff Keaten, Andy Hill, Mike Giroux, Mark Lundblad and Ken Hepburn completed the top ten.

OCTOBERFAST ENDURO 150 SPECIAL NOTES OF INTEREST

Due to a scorer mistake, Nick Gilcris lost four laps and fell from second to fifth in the final standings.

Second place finisher, Paul Hodge, who has been battling cancer this past year was ecstatic about his finish. Paul and Charlie Rockwell are good friends and they battled hard to the end. Paul was a little tired but was all smiles in victory lane.

Third place finisher, Charlie Rockwell donated a portion of his winnings to St. Paul’s School of Barton’s eighth grade class. Rockwell’s daughter Marina is an eighth grader at St. Paul’s and ironically, she was his only pit crew member.

Derby Line’s, Dylan Tester, aka DJ LOUD, a WMOO DJ in Derby, had an awesome top ten finish until scoring was rechecked. A score sheet was found left on a clipboard and that moved Mike Giroux up into the top ten, dropping Tester to 11th. Since it was a track mistake, he will still get a $50 for his finish.

The next event on the calendar will be the Annual Banquet of Champions which will be held on Saturday, November 18th at the Town and Country Inn and Resort in Gorham, New Hampshire. Tickets are now on sale and forms can be found on the Speedway 51 website at speedway51int.com. All forms must be filled out and returned with payment no later than Tuesday, November 14, 2017. The Town & Country Inn & Resort is offering a special room rate of $72.00 plus tax for banquet attendees. To reserve a room, please call 603-466-3315.

Changes ahead for 70th season at Beech Ridge

SCARBOROUGH — Beech Ridge Motor Speedway’s 70th season will offer more, more for competitors and fans alike, when engines roar to life for the first time in May.

In 2018, the NASCAR Nite series starts earlier (May 5), ends later (Sept. 8), adds a special weekday race to celebrate America, and amounts to an additional race date over the 2017 schedule

Thursday Thunder extends the season one week, beginning June 14 – Aug. 23, creating an 11-race series for its 22nd season.

Car Wars and Day of Destruction fans and teams enjoy additional dates, too:

The 2018 calendar cycles to five Friday nights in August for Car Wars performances.

The Day of Destruction moves to a standardized every-third-Saturday of the month schedule, hosting five of the popular events from May – Sept.  That schedule gives NASCAR weekly teams in particular a welcomed recovery break in expense budgets every month, and an opportunity to enjoy additional summer activities with family and friends on a Saturday night, while still increasing the overall event count.

Thunder teams will benefit alongside the NASCAR teams, as the speedway will open the pit gates for late-morning open practice sessions prior to the Day of Destruction openings.  For teams who need the fine-tuning and practice time, it’s an affordable alternative to track rentals during the heart of the season.

The full date-by-date schedule will post in the coming weeks after final date coordination is reached with touring and entertainment series.
