19 pit crew — Martin Truex Jr.’s pit crew got him into the lead under caution after Stage 2 but he had to return to pit under that caution to tighten loose lug nuts. Said Truex after the race: “We just need to quit having mistakes on pit road.”
William Byron — Lined up second on the final restart but contact with Matt DiBenedetto led to a tire rub and Byron falling back before he was involved in the crash that ended race. He finished 22nd.

FROM E-MAIN TO VICTORY LANE: JON KELLER SCORES HUGE UPSET VICTORY IN THIRD ANNUAL EAST COAST INDOOR DIRT NATIONALS 600 SPRINT FEATURE SATURDAY NIGHT IN TRENTON’S CURE INSURANCE ARENA;KENNY MILLER III, BILLY PAUCH, JR. SECOND AND THIRD IN WILD COME-FROM-BEHIND FINISH
TRENTON, NJ February 22,2020 . . . Bridgeport Speedway Micro Sprint regular Jon Keller of Salem, NJ raced to a thrilling victory Saturday night in the East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals 600 Sprint race held inside Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, NJ. The race was a 50-lap event and paid $5,000 to win.
“I can’t believe I even made it into the A-Main all the way from the E-Main let alone win the race,” Keller, 33, said. “I got run into the wall during the feature and rode along it and flipped in Saturday afternoon practice. On Friday, I got black flagged for spinning out three times in my heat and that put me in the back of the E-Main,” Keller related.
“I was discouraged enough after Friday that I actually went home. But as the crew told me the next morning, we’ve come all this way, now’s not the time to give up. They were right, and here we are.”
Keller started the feature dead last, from the thirteenth row, sidestepped several multi-car crashes, and took the lead with two laps to go, bringing Kenny Miller, III, who had started from the twelfth row, with him.
Billy Pauch, Jr., finished third. He led the first ten laps, then was involved in a six-car crash that affected several other front runners including Eddie Strada and Tim Buckwalter. All restarted, but at the back of the field.
Brenden Bright picked up the lead after the big tangle with the remarkable run of Keller first becoming apparent when he moved into the top three on lap 20.
Erick Rudolph, defending race winner, took the lead with 11 laps left as Bright faded. Keller grabbed second, closed on Rudolph and then, on the final restart of the race, shot by Rudolph on the high side of the multi-groove course to complete his shocking ride.
Miller was second, Pauch third, Rudolph fourth and Strada fifth.
“I don’t believe any of this. Winning this race against these top guys from the back of the field,” Keller said. “I don’t belong here, but here I am.”
Larry Wight, who worked his way through from the D Main into the A was sixth after running as high as third at one point. Kyle Spence, Mike Bednar, Bright and Jesse Maurer completed the top ten.
Two B Mains, from which the top six transferred to the A Main, were won by Joey Amantea and Pat Bealer.
C Main race winners were Brandon Pavel and Kyle Spence. Sammy Martz, Jr. and James Morris captured the pair of D Mains. Mike Mahaney and Matt Warner won the two E Mains.
The Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels concludes its 2020 season with the final ‘Concrete Series’ event at the New York State Fairgrounds Expo Center in Syracuse, NY on March 13-14, 2020 at which time the Series 2020 champion will be crowned.

Ryan Preece began his second NASCAR Cup Series season last week at Daytona.
Preece was a champion in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion before moving up NASCAR’s top level of racing, and still gets behind the wheel of his modified as often as possible. He’ll race both the Cup Series and modified race at Martinsville Speedway when the tour comes to town in May.
Preece spoke with the Bulletin last week from Daytona about the 2020 season and his racing plans for the year.
Bulletin: This being your second season in Cup, are you more comfortable with the pace of the season and that sort of thing?
Preece: I’m extremely comfortable. Obviously during the second year it helps, giving me that experience. Definitely looking forward to getting on track and getting things rolling here.
MB: You were here at Martinsville a couple weeks ago with Kevin Harvick testing your modified. What was it like to have the shoe on the other foot and get to show Kevin the ropes when it comes to modifieds?
Preece: Kevin is a badass racer so there wasn’t really anything that I was going to really tell him other than it’s a racecar, it’s nothing different from anything else you’ve driven. Just go out there and do what you’ve always done. It was cool to have him show up. Even though it was 40 degrees out and we froze, it was a lot of fun.
MB: Are there any other drivers you’d most want to see gives the modifieds a chance at Martinsville?
Preece: I think any of them. If any of them I think Clint Bowyer might be the next one I might be on to try and get him to do something a little different, or even Ricky (Stenhouse Jr.). We’ll have to see.
MB: Have you been poking any of them to do the race at Martinsville?
Preece: Not yet. I’ll wait a little bit before I do that. We’ve got to see if we can get Kevin in a full race soon.
MB: Other than that test that day how much will you be able to get on a short track this season?
Preece: I’m not sure yet. I think I’ll probably do about 6-10 races, depending on schedules and really how things work. Hopefully more than less.
MB: Having your modified, does that help kind of take your mind off of the Cup season, and do you get a chance to mill around in the shop a lot during the season?
Preece: I really don’t feel pressure to be honest with you. I think when I race that modified and we win it’s a good way to keep that feeling going and keep things high, so that’s really why I do that. I do that to go out there and try to win.
MB: Why was it important to you to do both the modified and Cup race at Martinsville this May?
Preece: Martinsville is special. It’s a trophy like none other. Having a grandfather clock is something that I really want. I already have one, but I want both, so the more laps I can get the better.
MB: Where is your grandfather clock?
Preece: It’s right in the front door of my house, as soon as you walk in. It’s the first thing you see.
MB: What are you most looking forward to the upcoming season.
Preece: Seeing the speed we have at the mile-and-a-halfs and the short tracks and making some gains.
The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week. The first NASCAR weekend at Martinsville Speedway for 2020 will be on May 8-9.
LAS VEGAS: Team Penske driver Joey Logano of Middletown, CT noted significant differences in the driver compartments of NASCAR’s Next-Gen car—scheduled to be on track in 2021—compared with the current Gen-6 edition.
Logano tested the Next-Gen car at Phoenix and found immediately that he sat lower in the car than in the current version, and that suited the 6-foot-1, 180-pound 2018 NASCAR Cup Series champion just fine.
“It’s no secret,” Logano said on Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, site of Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 (3:30 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). “There’s zero advantage of being tall as a race car driver. From the weight aspect or even the safety aspect, you’re higher in the car, your legs are cramped up more. Obviously, you need all the space that’s in the cockpit.
“One of the things when I was in the meetings about the NextGen car that I brought up is that we need to make sure we have enough room in the cockpit for a taller driver. Obviously, it’s important to me, and when I drove that thing at Phoenix, just initially sitting in it, I sit quite a bit lower in that car. I have more headroom to the roll cage, which is really important. Obviously, we see from last week (Ryan Newman’s accident) why it’s important to have some room up there. I was able to see plenty fine.”
Given his height, Logano thinks it may be a bonus to sit lower in the car.
“That may be the advantage is that I can see a little bit more being taller, but if you’re shorter, you just raise the seat up and you can see as well. Visually, no issues. I think we’re sitting a little bit more toward the center of the car, which is a good thing, and then also being lower, your head is being lowered to what the roll cage is—it’s also a huge positive, so those are all good things.”
