! VGPC opens ticket sales for two new grandstands as the countdown enters final stages for the most anticipated race on the 2020 Formula 1 calendar Hanoi, Vietnam – Today marks the occasion when the countdown to F1’s debut in Vietnam enters double figures for the first time with only 99 days left until the greatest drivers in the world line up on the brand-new Hanoi Circuit grid to fight for victory at the Formula 1 VinFast Vietnam Grand Prix 2020. To mark this import- ant milestone, VGPC is delighted to announce that tickets for the Standard and Unreserved Grandstands at T11 & T13 are now on sale, starting from as little as $165 & $99. Turn 11 provides a stunning view of F1 cars racing down the 1.5-km back-straight where they will reach estimated top speeds of 335km/h, before enter- ing this crucial corner, leaving no room for error! Already considered to be one of the most challenging sec- tions on the Hanoi Circuit, a seat in this Grandstand will offer fans an unforgettable vantage point to enjoy the world’s most spectacular racing from. Similarly, Grandstand seats at Turn 13 will provide fans with the perfect view of the Hanoi Circuit’s purpose-built stretch that has been inspired by Monaco’s famous Massenet hill section where the cars will fly past the My Dinh National Stadium following a tricky sequence of mid-fast corners. It will create a real, enclosed street circuit feel to this exciting sequence. Speaking today, the CEO of the Vietnam Grand Prix Corporation, Ms. Le Ngoc Chi was excited to mark this important milestone as the inaugural Formula 1 race in Vietnam draws ever closer: “The F1 VinFast Vietnam Grand Prix will fuse all that is great about F1 with everything that makes Vietnam such a unique and special place. It is incredibly satisfying to see how far we have come in the space of just over a year. Work is nearing completion on the Hanoi Circuit and we are now only a matter of months away from officially opening Vietnam’s first world-class racing and entertainment facility. With only 99 days to go, tickets are selling fast, so we are urging fans at home and abroad to act now and make sure they don’t miss out on this magnificent weekend of racing, live music, food festivals and vibrant Vietnamese culture. Come join us for this historic moment!” As the newest street race on the calendar, the Hanoi Circuit will run to 5,607m in length and feature 23 corners, making it the only circuit alongside Singapore’s Marina Bay Circuit to have as many turns. A feat of design, innovation & construction, the track will pose a stern examination of the drivers’ strength and skills, whilst providing fans with a weekend of non-stop, adrenaline- fuelled racing action. A unique hybrid design, fusing a street circuit’s characteristics with a permanent track llayout, the Hanoi Circuit is the first of its kind to be developed in partnership by Tilke Engineers and F1’s own Motorsports Division. With high speed corner sequences not seen at any other pure street tracks and as many as three overtaking points where cars will have the potential to duke it out side-by-side, this is a track designed to deliver spectacular racing. In addition to the F1 racing itself, all ticket holders will also be able to enjoy watching the support series on-track – including the recently announced Thailand Super Series – as well as participate in and witness the many entertainment activities, food festivals and live concerts that will be taking place across the circuit and F1 Fanzone all weekend. GET TO KNOW JOEY LOGANO FROM MIDDLETOWN CONNECTICUT
Joey Logano enters the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) season as the defending champion after his three-win 2018 campaign culminated in his first Cup Series title and the first driver championship for Ford Motor Company in 14 years. Logano produced a memorable title-clinching victory in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway to not only secure the second MENCS crown for Team Penske, but also check the box for the organization’s first win at the only NASCAR track where it had yet to visit Victory Lane.
Logano’s 2018 season was the picture of consistency from the first green flag at Daytona in February. The No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil/AAA/Autotrader Ford team secured three top-five and eight top-10 finishes before claiming its first victory at Talladega Superspeedway in April to reserve a spot in the NASCAR Playoffs. The Talladega victory also ended a nearly year-long winless drought for the 28 year-old Logano, his longest since joining Team Penske in 2013.
With a playoff berth secured, Logano and crew chief Todd Gordon spent the summer months exploring new setups and searching for race-winning speed on the 1.5-mile speedways which make up the majority of the MENCS season and playoff schedule. While the team faced its share of challenges along the way, the key learnings proved invaluable to its championship run. Despite a DNF at ISM Raceway in the penultimate event of the season, Logano and the No. 22 Ford crew scored more points than all other playoff contenders.
The team steadily advanced through the opening two rounds of the playoffs and in the first race of the Round of 8 at Martinsville Speedway, Logano displayed his championship mettle as he battled defending series titleholder Martin Truex Jr. in a door-slamming battle to the checkered flag. The victory at NASCAR’s oldest track confirmed his place in the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the third time in five seasons.
In Miami, Logano and the Shell-Pennzoil team put the garage on notice on Ford Championship Weekend as he paced both practices on Saturday, earned a top-five starting position and battled with the “Big Three” all afternoon. Following a late-race caution flag, the stage was set as all four title contenders lined up in positions one through four. With 12 laps remaining, Logano initiated a daring pass to the outside of Truex entering Turn 1, as he secured the lead and drove away to his 21st career victory and first career MENCS Championship.
Team Penske hopes the title is the first of many for Logano with the organization as the popular NASCAR star will race the Shell-Pennzoil Ford for the team through at least the 2022 season.
Prior to the championship campaign of 2018, Logano showed his ability to deliver winning at least once every season since he joined Team Penske in 2013.
Though he didn’t advance to the Playoffs in 2017, Logano still produced a race victory at Richmond and 10 top-five finishes.
During the 2016 season, Logano won three races and made his second appearance in the Championship Four at Homestead-Miami Speedway, as he finished second in the final MENCS point standings – his best-ever finish at that point of his career. Entering the 2016 season, Logano had won more races (11) than any other driver in NASCAR’s premier national touring series and he was the pick of many industry experts to win the elusive title entering 2017.
The successful 2016 season followed an impressive 2015 that saw Logano win a series-high six races, including the biggest event of the season – the Daytona 500. Logano went on to record five more victories, including his sweep of the MENCS Playoffs Round of 12 by winning at Charlotte, Kansas and Talladega. In all, Logano scored 22 top-five and 28 top-10 finishes, to go along with six pole positions and 1,431 laps led in 2015. The totals eclipsed his previous best season in 2014, when Logano produced five wins, 16 top-five finishes, 22 top-10 results and 993 laps led. In his first season racing with Team Penske in 2013, Logano earned one victory, two pole positions and 12 top-10 finishes.
As they look to defend the MENCS title in 2019, Logano will once again team with Gordon, who returns for his eighth season as crew chief of the No. 22 team. Race engineer Miles Stanley will also be back alongside Gordon in the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil/AAA/Auto Club of Southern California/Autotrader/MoneyLion Ford Mustang pitbox this season. The majority of the No. 22 crew return for 2019 and most of the team members have been together since Logano’s maiden season at Team Penske. Logano will also continue to compete in select NASCAR XFINITY Series races for Team Penske in 2019.
Away from the race track, Logano and his wife Brittany were honored with the 2018 Comcast Community Champion of the Year award in Miami for their charitable efforts with the Joey Logano Foundation. Entering 2019, the Foundation has contributed over $3 million to organizations that provide second chances to kids and young adults in crisis.
In addition to his charity work, Logano owns and operates Clutch Studios in Huntersville, NC, a state-of-the-art facility that the NASCAR industry continues to call home for partner production shoots and other commercial needs.
Logano also enjoys spending time with his wife and one-year-old son Hudson around the Charlotte, NC area that the family calls home.

White Mountain Motorsports Park:Off-season Spotlight
Welch Dominates for 5th Straight Late Model Title |
N. Woodstock, NH – 12/20/19 – Groveton’s Quinny Welch has been racing for a long time at White Moun- tain Motorsports Park – and winning for just as long. At 45 years old, Welch showed no signs of slowing down this past year. The veteran dusted the Foley Oil & Propane Late Model field from start to finish, rolling to another “King of the Mountains” crown at the high banks. Even by Welch’s lofty standards, the 2019 season was one of his best yet. Welch began the year with a runner-up finish in the Caron Fabrication Spring Green for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT). How- ever, the decision had previously been made to declare the Spring Green a “show points” event, with all drivers who attempted to qualify receiving 50 championship points. This meant Welch ended the event in a tie for the Late Model point lead. He took outright possession of the top spot the following Saturday with his first win the year. After the Memorial Day Weekend event was postponed by rain, Welch won again when racing resumed on June 1. Welch never did surrender the top spot, going wire-to-wire during the 14-race campaign. The numbers Welch put up along the way were sensational. He eventually posted five wins in his Joe McGinnis Snowplowing Chevrolet, which included the double-point Mid-Season Championships on July 13. That victory kicked off a streak of three wins in four events to all but salt the title away. Welch added four runner-up finishes and a pair of third-place efforts, giving him a remarkable 11 podium fin- ishes. Perhaps even more incredible is that Welch never finished outside the top-5 in the point-counting sch- edule. Fifth-place results in a make-up feature on July 13 and a regular feature on July 27 were his “low” points. (NOTE: Welch did finish 6th in the Midsummer 250 on August 3, but that event did not count for WMMP Late Model points.) All told, he had an average finish of 2.36 – more than three spots better than any other full-time Late Model competitor. The result was the fifth straight championship for Welch. Every year since 2015, the veteran has stood atop the heap at year’s end as “King of the Mountains”. It was also the eighth WMMP Late Model title overall for Welch as he previously won titles in 2007, 2011, and 2012 prior to his current streak. “It was a good year,” Welch said in his acceptance speech. “It all comes from having a great team. Ever-ybody at my (banquet) table. Shane (Cannon) has traveled thousands of miles to chase my rear end around. He must think it’s cool or something…Eddie coming back on board this year was huge. We lost Artie, but gained Eddie. It was a good deal. Paul was big as well. Tyler didn’t make it many times, but when he did, it was good to have him around.” Welch also thanked his family and the rest of his crew, along with their families. He went on to single out Crazy Horse Racing, his longtime chassis builder, as one of the keys to his success. “Obviously without a good race car, I’m not going to do much. Crazy Horse race cars, in my opinion, are the best race cars in the business. It’s not only the cars that are good. Mitch and Judy (Green) have been there for me a long time. I remember a time when I got wrecked pretty hard and I probably wasn’t coming back, and they made it happen for me. I’ll never forget it – I appreciate it a lot.” In addition, Welch complimented the entire Late Model division, including runner-up Stacy Cahoon, a five-time champion himself. This came after a few jokes at Cahoon’s expense. The two have become friendly rivals after more than a decade racing against each other at WMMP. “I can’t ever forget about the 83,” Welch exclaimed. “He’s usually running right at my door. He always tells me he’s gonna take the vinyl off, the door off – I think the last time he even said I was gonna be hanging from the flag stand! Thank god that didn’t happen. I’ve been racing with him a long time. I love the guy to death. We race hard. Actually, the whole Late Model division this year was super. The guys were respectful. How many times did we have to replace body panels around here? Not very often. It’s a great group of guys.” Welch concluded by thanking track co-owner Cris Michaud for bringing the Late Model division back in 2019 and the Avery family for their dedication to the track over the years. He added that he already “can’t wait for next year”, indicating he plans to pursue a sixth straight title. |
