Bryan Hulbert – TULSA, Okla. (November 25, 2019) With the first 101 entries confirmed, and we’re not talking Dalmatians, the entry list for the 34th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire has been released. Taking place January 13-18 atop the clay of the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. eight of the entries received thus far are still in search of a driver while 24 are among those who have made the cut.

Among the entered is 2019 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Champion, Brad Sweet, who will be wheeling a Rusty Kunz-RMS mount, has an average finish of seventh among his five A-Feature starts with a best finish of third in 2013.

Keeping in theme with the World of Outlaws, the first entries received for the 2020 event came from World Racing Group Director of Broadcast, Brian Dunlap, who will field a pair of cars with World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models Series Director, Casey Shuman, who has five A-Feature starts, and Washington’s Gary Taylor, who has made the show on three occasions.

In terms of who has the most impressive Chili Bowl resume’ of those entered so far, that honor goes to Dave Darland who has 15 A-Feature starts, two podiums, five top-five, and eighth top-ten finishes since 1998.

While the list of drivers who have made the cut always reads like a list of current and future Hall of Fame drivers, there are currently 15 on the list taking their first crack at the “Mecca of Midgets”.

Continuing the trend of attracting talent from nearly every discipline, Australia’s James Davison is among the list of Chili Bowl Rookies. From Formula Ford, Rolex Sports Car Series, Indy Car, and some starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the 33-year old racing veteran will be Hayward Motorsports mount for his first shot at the Golden Driller.

With the number of drivers entered expected to swell rapidly as teams wrap up this week’s 79th annual Turkey Night Grand Prix at California’s Ventura Raceway, the deadline for the discounted early entry fee of $150 is Friday, December 13. After that, the prices per entry goes to $200. The entry blank is online at http://www.chilibowl.com an can be returned by mail to 1141 S. 83rd East Ave. Tulsa, OK 74112 or by fax to (918) 836-5517.

Teams can also enter by phone at (918) 838-3777, Monday-Friday between 9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. (CT). Entry forms must include a current W9 form which can be downloaded at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf

For the 3rd consecutive season Stafford Speedway will host Modified Open 80 events. New for 2020, Stafford will play host to 4 Modified Open events running once per month in May, June, July, and August. Registration for 2020 Modified Open 80 events is now open with registration available online at staffordspeedway.com or by contacting the track office. Team’s registering early and for all four Modified Open 80 events will be given a registration discount.

“Each of our Modified Open events in 2019 were great races,” explained Stafford CEO Mark Arute. “We put this deal together back in 2018 to provide a better on track product for race fans and a better experience for teams and drivers. We’ve added a fourth Modified Open event in 2020 which puts us at one per month.”

To date 5 Modified Open 80 events have been held at the half-mile since the first in June of 2018. In 5 events, 5 different winners have broke into NAPA Victory Lane including Tommy Barrett, Eric Goodale, Keith Rocco, Ryan Preece, and Ronnie Williams. The event has become a battle of Stafford regulars vs. Stafford invaders which many fans and drivers have come to enjoy.

“We’ve had a good mix of Stafford regulars and Stafford invaders,” continued Arute. “Our race fans like to see guys like Eric Goodale, Tommy Barrett and Jeff Gallup come out and try and best the local favorites like Keith Rocco, Ronnie Williams, and Todd Owen. We’re looking forward to another season of great racing in each of the 80 lap events.”

The first race of the season for the Open Modifieds is slated for Friday, May 15th with the 3rd Annual Twisted Tea Open 80 scheduled just under a month later on Friday, June 12th. The fan favorite Bud Light Open 80 returns Friday, July 10th, and the final event of the season for the Open Modifieds, the Lincoln Tech 80, will be held Friday, August 21st.

Rules, registration, and additional information can be found online at StaffordSpeedway.com. Teams and drivers are encouraged to contact the track office by phone (860-684-2783), via email (smsonline@staffordspeedway.com), or on social media with any questions.

NASCAR Cup Series driver Corey LaJoie will return to the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway (FL), climbing back into a Super Late Model for the first time in nearly two years. LaJoie is the son of now retired NASCAR Cup and Xfinity driver Randy Lajoie a native of Norwalk, CT

LaJoie competed in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2019, driving for Go Fas Racing. While his Cup schedule has limited his appearances in Super Late Model events in recent years, he is excited to return to the biggest event in Super Late Model racing for the first time since 2017, driving for Jamie Yelton’s Fat Head Racing,

?I?m excited, man. It?s been a while since I drove a Super,? LaJoie told Speed51. ?I?m excited to get back down there. The last time I was there, we were really good and broke a track bar real late in the race. I thought we had a top-three car. Hopefully we can go back down there, get it driving good and contend for a good run.?

Race fans eager to see LaJoie compete in the 52ndAnnual Snowball Derby [ Sunday, December 8] can order tickets for the event now at 5flagsspeedway.com.

For fans unable to make the trip, they can tune in to Speed51’s pay-per-view broadcast of the event.  To order your early bird Snowball Derby four-day video package today, click here and use discount code “snowbird.” Individual video tickets are available for each day of racing; however, a four-day early bird video ticket offers a total savings of $38.

GSPSS to allow new bodies in 2020

The Granite State Pro Stock Series will allow its competitors to use two new body options for the 2020 racing season.

The brand new AR Revolution reskin kit, to be released at PRI 2019, will be legal for 2020 along with 5 Star’s Gen 6 body that was released one year ago. Both of these new body options will carry a 20 pound weight penalty for the 2020 racing season.

The ABC or “Approved Body Configuration” bodies have been the same since 2002 when the ABC committee adopted the current set of rules. For 2019 5 Star released their Gen 6 body and the GSPSS chose to remain with the ABC program. Now, with AR releasing their version, the series has made the decision to approve the new package.

In 2019 both the ABC body package and the Gen 6 body saw success with numerous wins and top three finishes for both options. The Granite State Pro Stock Series hopes this trend continues in 2019 as teams have indicated their intentions to go in all three directions.

“While we believe strongly in the ABC body program, we feel that the time is right to allow these two new options for our competitors”, said series president Mike Parks. “As things play out over the next year, we will continue to evaluate where we go in the future. ABC has plans for change in the next year or so and we will be watching that closely.”

As for the weight penalty the series wanted to make sure that teams didn’t feel like they had to have the new body. “The ABC program has worked very well for our series”, stated Parks. “Both Nathan Kelly (head technical inspector) and I felt it was important that a team that didn’t need a new body, didn’t feel like they had to have one. Despite the fact that we are racing Pro Stocks we are still trying to keep the cost of racing in check.”

Fans of the series will get to see the new bodies for the first time at Claremont Motorsports Park at the end of April. The traditional series opener will see a number of firsts. Along with the new bodies, Mike Parks and his group will take over the operation of the speedway and there will be new drivers and teams for both the series and track.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Citroën is withdrawing from next year’s world rally championship following the decision of six-time world champion Sébastien Ogier to leave the team.

The French car manufacturer said in a statement on Wednesday it decided to stop its rally program “due to the absence of a first-class driver available for the 2020 season.”

Ogier had a year left on his contract but quit in the wake of a disappointing season by his standards, winning only three races and finishing third in the world championship behind Thierry Neuville of Belgium and winner Ott Tänak of Estonia.

Citroën CEO Linda Jackson says “we could not imagine the 2020 season without Sebastien” driving for the team.

The 35-year-old Frenchman, who won six straight world titles from 2013-18 and has won 47 races overall, will reportedly sign with Toyota.
