Street Stocks Rev Up for Twin State Series Event
Barre, VT – This Sunday, August 5, the “People’s Race” returns to the high banks of Barre’s Thunder Road. The annual Bolduc Metal Recycling Enduro 200 is one of the most popular events every summer, giving amateur racers their yearly chance to tackle the legendary oval.
A hundred cars or more are once again expected for the $3,000-to-win, no-holds-barred affair that has launched many racing careers while giving others their shining moment of glory. The entire field will start 3-wide, creating a gridlock tougher to navigate than New York City rush-hour traffic. There will be no yellow flags and few red flags, making for an event unlike any other held at Thunder Road.
“The Enduro is the type of event that many people circle on their calendar as soon as the schedule comes out,” track co-owner Cris Michaud said. “It’s such a unique event, from the format to the racing itself. And it’s a day where pretty much everyone has a great time regardless of the result.”

Sunday’s event also features the third round of the Twin State Street Stock Series. The Allen Lumber Street Stock Special has been a big part of Enduro Sunday for many years. But the stakes have been raised for this year’s 50-lapper. The event will count for both the track championship and for the 4-race series with Groveton, NH’s Speedway 51.
Barre’s Jeffrey Martin is looking to remain perfect in the Twin State Series. The veteran captured the 50-lap series opener at Thunder Road on June 21 and then took home the 75-lap event at Speedway 51 on July 7. By going 2-for-2, he has opened up a 20-point advantage in the overall standings over Craftsbury Common’s Stephen Martin.
Both Martins will have to fight off a large herd of Street Stockers. Matthew Smith of Essex Jct. finished second to Jeffrey Martin at the first Thunder Road series event and is a 2-time winner himself this season. St. Johnsbury’s Alan Birch has been the top Speedway 51 regular in the series, sitting third in Twin State points. Last year’s Street Stock Special winner Tommy “Thunder” Smith of Williamstown and Speedway 51 point leader Kasey Beattie of St. Johnsbury will also be among the favorites.
The results could also have big implications in the Allen Lumber Street Stock track championship. Matthew Smith has a commanding 65-point lead over Stephen Martin entering Thursday’s event. But with a larger field than usual expected on Sunday, a bad night could put a big hurt on his title bid. Jeffrey Martin, Tim Hunt, and Logan Powers are among those looking to stay in contention with just six point-counting events remaining.
The Bolduc Metal Recycling Enduro 200 and Allen Lumber Street Stock Special goes to post at 6:00pm on Sunday, August 5. The pits will open at 2:00pm while the front gates open at 3:00pm. Safety inspection of all Enduro cars begins at 12:00pm. Admission is $15 for adults and free for kids age 12 and under.
