Richest Race on the North East Mini Stock Tour is Set for Next September 14th

In New England, most short track racing tour have their own marquee events. PASS Super Late Models have the Oxford 250, ACT Late Models have the Milk Bowl at Thunder Road, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has The Icebreaker at Thompson and the Granite State Pro Stock Series and the Valenti Modified Racing Series share the spotlight during the running of the New England Short Track Showdown at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

And while the North East Mini Stock Tour might be a little bit smaller in size and in cost compared to those other types of racing, the teams of that tour also have their own big event that is setting its roots into the New England racing scene. After a successful debut in 2017, the Four Cylinder Nationals at Claremont Speedway in Claremont, New Hampshire will be back on the calendar for 2018. The race will be held on Friday, September 14th.

The inaugural Four Cylinder Nationals drew nearly 40 entries despite a raceday threat of rain. Fans were entertained by a series of qualifying races to set the field and then a feature race with 100 green flag laps was held. Although the race pays a base purse of $1,500, Connecticut native Glen Thomas earned a total of $3,060 with his Nissan 240 thanks to lap leader money and several other special bonuses posted by race sponsors and fans.

The system of qualifying races and the basic purse structure will remain the same for the 2018 version of the race with the victor chasing a $1,500 base purse plus an additional $20 for each lap led. However, additional sponsorship and bonus money is being solicited in an effort to make the race even more lucrative to win.

Bob Guptill, NEMST promoter, feels that the high banks and tight turns of Claremont Speedway is a great place for the Four Cylinder Nationals to have as a home.

“We are very excited to offer such a successful event once again for 2018 at a track that showcases a driver’s ability far more than their wallet,” said Guptill. “The winner of the Four Cylinder Nationals in 2017 took home over $3,000 in a field of 39 competitors. Claremont Speedway and everyone involved have been great to work with and we look forward to going back there to give the fans a great show and the teams a great opportunity.”
