NASCAR Divisions ready to rock at Seekonk!

Pro Stocks, Everett’s Auto Parts Late Models, South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman & The Seekonk Sport Trucks are ready to roll for their 73rd season!

Pro Stocks

Coming into the 2017 Pro Stock season, Tom Scully Jr. is at the top of the list when it comes to championship favorites. Last year, Scully finally was able to capture his first title in a consistent season while he captured some victories along the way. The plans for the West Warwick, R.I. driver are fairly simple — he wants to collect back-to-back crowns in Seekonk’s toughest class. However, it’s not going to be an easy task for the veteran.

Everett’s Auto Parts Late Models

Entering the 2017 NASCAR Whelen All American Series Everett’s Auto Parts Late Model season at Seekonk, everyone is trying to figure out the way they will beat two-time champion Dylan Estrella. The North Attleboro, Mass. driver has captured the last two crowns in the division in convincing fashion. In 2015, Estrella did it while driving for Bill Bernard. In 2016, Estrella teamed up with Everett’s Auto Parts while driving for Bernard and picked up right where he left off, winning more times than you can count on one hand.

South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman

The 2017 season will begin a new era at Seekonk Speedway for one Saturday night division. The Street Stocks have been re-named to “Sportsman,” which will surely take a little bit for everyone to remember. However, there is no fear. The racing on the track will still be top notch and the class will be one of the most exciting divisions to watch for any fan in New England.

Seekonk Sport Trucks

The 2016 Seekonk Sports Trucks season was one of the closest and most intense championship battles that the division has seen in years. Mike Cavallaro’s experience behind the wheel and Chase Belcher’s tenacity and never-give-up attitude put fans through a thrilling final few weeks of the season that eventually saw Cavallaro come out with the victory. Going into the 2017 season, it’s going to be tough to beat both of these drivers and they seem to be the two that drivers will need to beat on a weekly basis.

After spending the 2016 season behind the wheel of Johnny Davis Motorsports’ #01 car in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Ryan Preece has returned to full time competition on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour for the 2017 season.  The Berlin native will pilot Ed Partridge’s #6 T.S. Haulers machine and is looking to capture the NAPA Spring Sizzler® to complete what would be a career Stafford quartet of checkered flags.  Preece has already won the late May/Early June, August, and NAPA Fall Final events during his NWMT career, all that remains is to win the grand-daddy of them all, “The Greatest Race in the History of Spring” the NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler®. When it comes to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour racing at Stafford Motor Speedway, Long Island native Justin Bonsignore will be the first to admit that Stafford hasn’t been one of his better tracks.  Bonsignore has racked up 9 top-5 and 16 top-10 finishes in 28 career NWMT starts at Stafford in addition to one career pole position coming at the 2011 NAPA Fall Final but is still in search of that elusive first career Stafford win. At Lime Rock for Memorial Day weekend, the Pirelli World Challenge series brings all seven PWC classes: GT, GTA, GTS, GT Cup, plus the three Touring Car classes – TC, TCA and TCB. PWC’s featured class is GT, which are production-based cars in the international GT-3 specification from manufacturers including Cadillac, Bentley, Acura, Nissan, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, Mercedes and more. (GTA cars are of the same type, but raced by high-level amatuers, not professionals.) The GTS cars are run to the less expensive international GT-4 rules, and include Camaros, Mustangs, Audi TT and the like. GT Cup are the international spec-racer Porsches, Lamborghinis and Ferraris. The Touring Car classes are for smaller-engined BMWs, Porsches, Mustangs, Hondas, Mazdas, Chevrolets, Minis, Nissans and KIAs. Each division has two races over the weekend. All the GT-class races at Lime Rock are being run in the new, exciting “SprintX” format: 60 minutes long, with a mandatory driver swap at 25 minutes.

At Lime Rock, parking and paddock access is free. General Admission: Youths 16 and under are free (w/accompanying adult), and vets and active military (and for Memorial Day weekend, their immediate families) are free.

The time has finally come to go racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as the 1.6-mile road course gets ready to host motorcycle and legends car racing this weekend, April 29-30. The Loudon Road Race Series (LRRS) will feature more than two dozen races over the two days of action, while the Moat Mountain Road Course Serieswill hold the first point races of its season with a race on Saturday and Sunday.
The LRRS and Moat Mountain Road Course Series will drop the green flag on the local racing season, which also includes the Sign Works Oval Series (legends) and the Sign Works Mini Oval Bandolero Series. Both will begin their respective seasons on May 20.“We are immensely proud of the local racing that we feature here at New Hampshire Motor Speedway,” said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “We have an incredible group of drivers that might one day be making headlines in NASCAR, while our two-wheeled riders are true professionals and incredible to watch.”The bikes and legends cars will be on the track beginning on Thursday for open track sessions.
Legends
The Moat Mountain Road Course Series will run its 14-race schedule on NHMS’ 1.6-mile road course. The Sign Works Oval Series will run a 10-race schedule, featuring seven races on the NHMS quarter-mile mini-oval and, for the first time, three off-property races at Monadnock Speedway (May 13), Lee USA Speedway (May 27), andSpeedway 51 (Aug. 5).
Shaun Buffington (Plainfield, Conn.) is a multi-time track champion in both series, while other local drivers looking to make their marks include Ryan DeCandia (Chaplin, Conn.), Jack Walker (Bow, N.H.), Taylor Martin (Windham, N.H.), Jordan O’Brien (Yarmouth, Maine), and Thomas Saari (Rindge, N.H.).With drivers ranging in age from 12 to 65, legends car racing is not only one of the most affordable types of American motorsports, but serves as a feeder system for drivers looking to make the jump to the next level of racing. Two-time NHMS Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series winner Joey Logano, former Cup Series champions Kyle and Kurt Busch, and former Daytona 500 winner David Ragan highlight an impressive list of drivers that got their starts in legends racing.
Loudon Road Race Series
The LRRS docket will feature seven weekends – running April through October – of motorcycle racing, highlighted by the 94th annual Loudon Classic motorcycle weekend June 16-18. Notable riders include 2016 LRRS Track Champion Scott Greenwood (Dunbarton, N.H.) and two-time reigning Loudon Classic champion Shane Narbonne (Tyngsboro, Mass.), as well as Charles Sandoz (Plainville, Mass.), Eric Wood (Ashburnham, Mass.), Kevin Allen (Manchester Center, Vt.) and 2016 Rookie of the Year Shawn Barron (Riverhead, N.Y.).
Thanks to a strong development program, Penguin Roadracing School, the LRRS has become the Northeast’s premier motorcycle racing circuit, featuring some of the tightest and most intense racing on two wheels. To help build for the future, Penguin has once again scheduled race school days on the Friday prior to all LRRS weekends – a program that started in 2016.Present and future motorcycle road racers can get the training needed to become a fully licensed competitor in the LRRS. More information on the Penguin Roadracing School can be found on the school’s website.
Bandoleros
The Sign Works Mini Oval Bandolero Series started at NHMS in May of 2013. Smaller and easier to drive than legends cars, bandolero cars serve as a stepping stone to the more powerful legends division and feature drivers as young as nine years old.
Nine-year-old Devin Deshaies (Oakland, R.I.), Matt Gaudreau, 14, of Eastford, Conn., Calvin Puglisi, 13, of Rye, N.H., Brandon Lavoie, 12, of Littleton, Mass., and Cam Huntress, 12, of Rochester, N.H., highlight a list of notable drivers vying for this year’s title.Single day admission passes to attend all local racing events at the speedway start at $10.
