“I’m pretty excited,” said Trott. “It’s a faster car with a little more competition so I’m looking forward to it. There’s going to be a learning curve for sure with a bigger car and more power from the engine. There’s a little bit of nerves and jitters but overall I’m ready to rock. It’s going to be a new ballgame for us and even though we had some success in the DARE Stock division we’re not going to take anything lightly. I have to thank my father, Jet Motorsports, Kevin Keena Memorials, Clark Home Improvement, Steve’s Auto Care, and CT Tints for their support. All of those guys are ready to make the jump up to the bigger division and I can’t thank them all enough.”
After scoring 4 top-10 finishes in his rookie season, Trott won 3 races in 2015 and finished second in points and followed that up with another three-win season in 2016 with a third place finish in the standings. With L’Etoile driving to a win and a 6th place finish in points this season in the Limited Late Model division, Trott is feeling confident that he can replicate the success he enjoyed in the DARE Stock division.
“My confidence is pretty high from watching Frank race this year,” said Trott. “We have a good car and we’re going to freshen it up a bit during the off season. We did pretty well in the DARE Stock division the last couple years. I learned a lot with developing some patience and just becoming a better driver and I can take that knowledge with me to the Limited Late Model division. The biggest thing for us is going to be learning the car and setting it up week to week. It has a lot more adjustments than the DARE Stock car has.”
Trott was hoping to take home a championship in the DARE Stock division before moving up to the Limited Late Model division, but he was satisfied with his results and now he has his focus set on repeating Frank L’Etoile, Jr.’s Rookie of the Year win.
“Of course we wanted to win the championship this season, but it was what it was,” said Trott. “We went out every week and drove the hardest we could and we had the most wins at the end of the year and no one can take that away from us. We showed up with the best car we could every week and our motor was one of if not the oldest in the division. We definitely had the best turning car in turns 1+2 so anything we were lacking in power we made up for with the handling of the car. Week to week we were starting in the back and we had some tough breaks, but to have 3 wins and have the year we had is pretty awesome.”
Trott will get his first taste of life in the Limited Late Model division on April 28-30 for the 46th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler. The NAPA Spring Sizzler gets underway Friday, April 28 with a practice session for Stafford’s weekly divisions and Mr. Rooter Trucks. The practice session will be open to the public at no charge. Action continues on Saturday, April 29 with Coors Light Pole Qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour cars, along with heat and consolation races for Stafford’s weekly divisions and Mr. Rooter Trucks. Saturday will wrap up with feature events for the SK Light, Limited Late Model, DARE Stock, and Mr. Rooter Trucks. Spring Sizzler action continues on Sunday, April 30 with the NAPA Auto Parts Pit Party from 11am-12noon followed by Stafford’s SK Modifieds® and Late Models joining the Whelen Modified Tour in feature action.
Tickets for the “Greatest Race in the History of Spring” are on sale now at the Speedway Box Office. Tickets are priced at $40.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating will be priced at $42.00 for all ages. All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax.
