Wiscasset Speedway celebrates 47 years

Wiscasset Speedway on the Maine coast has been a part of the Down East motorsports picture for many years.

Wiscasset Speedway on the Maine coast has been on the racing scene for 47 seasons.

 

Last Saturday night marked the anniversary of some important historical events. In 2007, Honda produced the six millionth Civic. The 1996 US Women’s Gymnastics team brought home the first gold; Vanessa Williams was the first winner in pageant history to resign in 1984; and deep in the heart of Lincoln County, Wiscasset Speedway opened in 1969. For 47 years, it has operated as Maine’s fastest track. Even though drivers showed up wearing fire suits instead of their birthday suits, each division had obviously come to party. Continue reading

The New London-Waterford Speedbowl celebrated its annual Nostalgia Night with a former SK Modified division champion snapping a two-year plus winless streak in the SK Modified division.  Rob Janovic Jr. of Waterford drove away from the field in the closing stages to win the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature. Jason Durgan takes the Mid-Season’s Championship in the Sportsman-Modified Division at Vermont’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vermont.

 

 

Jason Durgan picked the right night to become the first repeat winner of the season at Vermont’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway, scoring in the double-points Mid-Season Championship race presented by Friend Construction on Saturday, July 23.  Durgan was one of four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car winners on the half-mile Asphalt Track on Saturday, including Robert Bryant Jr., Richie Turner, and Eric Messier. McKennedy and Pasteryak split 50 lap VMRS features at Lee USA Speedway

The Valenti Modified Racing Series made a stop at the Lee USA Speedway in southern NH last Friday night.

 

 

Jon McKennedy, of East Chelmsford, MA, and Chris Pasteryak, of Jewett City, CT, shared top honors Friday night at Lee USA Speedway, each scoring a 50-lap win in the Valenti Modified Racing Series event at the New Hampshire oval. Continue reading

With the departure of 2-time defending DARE Stock track champion Frank L’Etoile, Jr. to the Ltd. Late Model division, the race for the track championship is wide open.  There are three drivers separated by only 4 points or two positions on the track and the 4th place driver is only 26 points out of the lead.

Connecticut’s Renee Dupuis returns to Thompson’s Sunoco Modified Division

 

A familiar name returned to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 9 in the Sunoco Modified division. Renee Dupuis was back behind the wheel on the track she calls home for the first time in five years, in the #90 car, owned by Ed Bennett. She has run with Ed Bennett and his team for years, last racing on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in the very same chassis that she raced at Thompson less than two weeks ago. Although disappointed that the race was postponed due to weather, the team is looking forward to finishing up the last half of the season strong.

Star Speedway to host Tri-Track Modified Open Series on Saturday night, July 30

Star Speedway gets the very much sought after Tri-Track Modified Open Series next Saturday night, July 30

Star Speedway in Epping, New Hampshire has been the home of the Tri-Track Open Modified Series event for many years. Though the race did not occur in 2015, it’s now scheduled for next Saturday night, July 30.  That track and the series have come back together to produce a race that will draw driver’s from all across the Northeast with $10,000 going to the victor. Organizer Kevin Rice is currently gathering contingency money because he was hired by the promoters, the Four Racing Guys headed up by Connecticut’s Dick Williams, to make this event successful. Rice is a hard working individual and has a reputation for making an event such as this one a home run. Continue reading
