Thompson Speedway hosts 3rd Annual Vintage Motorsports Festival this weekend

There was plenty of hard racing action at the Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park's Icebreaker.

Vintage sports cars descend on Thompson’s 1.7 mile roadcourse.

Over 100 vintage sports cars, spanning across nearly a century, will converge on the 1.7-mile road course at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) this week, June 23-25, for the 3rd Annual Vintage Motorsports Festival. This event will feature drivers from two of the premier vintage racing clubs in the Northeast, the Vintage Racer Group (VRG) and Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA), on the historic road course. In its third year of running, the event continues to grow as one of the most anticipated races of the season at Thompson.

This year the featured marque will be Alfa Romeo. This group will be honored with a special Alfa-only race on both Friday and Saturday, featuring a wide range of models from Alfa Romeo’s impressive racing history, including the Alfa Romeo Monza, Giulietta and GTV.

Alfa Romeo car owners are also invited to join in the festivities on Saturday, as one of the featured car corrals for the event. In addition to a special parking area, they will enjoy parade laps around the track at lunchtime on Saturday. The event will also include car corrals for BMW, Porsche, Corvettes and British car owners.

TSMP is thrilled to welcome special guest and former IndyCar driver, Lyn St. James, to the 2016 event. One of the top female drivers to have raced in this country, she has been awarded Rookie of the Year at the Indy 500 and is a winner of the Daytona 24 Hours race. She will be featured as the guest speaker at the Participants’ Dinner on Friday evening, and will also be holding a book signing in the Paddock area on Saturday at 12:30 PM.

The 3-day event will feature a Practice day on Thursday, and Qualifying and Racing all day Friday and Saturday.

In honor of our Armed Forces, U.S. Military, Reserves and National Guard will receive free admission to the Vintage Motorsports Festival.  Veterans will receive a discounted ticket.
