A 13-year tradition continues Saturday, July 2, when the Valenti Modified Racing Series heads to Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH, for the running of the annual ‘Firecracker 100’, an annual presentation by the speedway to coincide with the tracks Independence Day celebration and fireworks display.
The role has reversed with Jon McKennedy, of E. Chelmsford, MA, now leading reigning champion Woody Pitkat, of Sturbridge, MA, by 18-points after last weeks runner-up finish for the McKennedy team at Stafford.
McKennedy is a three-time series champion. Both he and Woody Pitkat are expected. Three of Monadnock’s own, household names with the VMRS, are entering the Saturday event.
W.Swanzey, NH’s, Kirk Alexander, the series four-time champion, and all-time race winner, will look to add his seventh ‘Firecracker’ win to his record book. Swanzey rivals Todd Patnode and Russ Hersey are both looking for their first ‘Firecracker’ and are listed as expected entries.
Connecticut drivers Chris Pasteryak, of Jewett City, winner of the first Monadnock race in April, veteran Jeff Pearl, of Salem, and Geoff Gerhard, of Bozrah, CT, are both planning to compete. Rookie of the Year contender Colbey Fournier, of Berkley, MA, veteran George Sherman, of Framingham, MA, and Rob Richardi, of Easton, MA are also expected.
Fans are reminded coolers are not allowed in the grandstand because of the anticipated annual turnout for the races and fireworks. Qualifying starts at 5 p.m..
