When the Legends debuted for the first time on the 1.7 mile road course at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) last May, it was regarded by many as one of the best races of the season on the road course track. OTB Promotions has partnered with TSMP to bring the Legends back for a full-season series in 2016. Midstate Site Development (MSD) will sponsor the eleven-race championship campaign, spanning from April through October. The series will award both INEX and TSMP points, and begins with a National Qualifier on April 29. A total purse of over $15,000 will be paid out through the season, and there will be a separate point fund of $3,250 paid out to the top 10 by OTB at the end of the season.
The INEX Legend cars are 5/8-scale fiberglass full-fendered versions of the famed NASCAR Modifieds driven by legendary drivers such as Fireball Roberts, Buck Baker, Curtis Turner, Speedy Thompson and Banjo Matthews. They give drivers a fun and affordable “spec” class of racing for anyone to participate in.
The MSD INEX Legend series hosted at TSMP will kick off the season at the 2nd annual Icebreaker, Road Race Style on April 29. They will also participate in the Open Wheel Weekend on May 20, the Thompson Summer Road Race Series on June 5, July 10 and August 7, and will finish off with a race on October 9.
Glenn Korner, owner of Midstate Site Development, is “looking forward to partnering with Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park to bring a road course series to Connecticut for the US Legend cars.” Midstate Motor Sports drivers, Glenn and Noah Korner have raced legend cars on the road course at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Virginia International Raceway, Charlotte Motor Speedway and the inaugural Legend car race at TSMP.
