The Seekonk Speedway continues to release pieces of their 2016 racing schedule and on Wednesday, the track announced another touring series will be returning in 2016 for the first time in almost a decade. On Saturday July 16, 2016, the American Canadian Tour (ACT) will return to Seekonk for the first time since 2007, to compete in a 150 lap affair that will showcase the top Late Model touring cars from across the Northeast United States and Canada.
Not only will the ACT Tour be on hand, but there will be a INEX Legends Regional race on that Saturday evening, showcasing the top Fast Friday Legends up against some of the invaders from around the area. Though the Pro Stocks and regular Late Models will have the night off, the Street Stocks will run a Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series event, with the Sports Trucks running their regular 20 lap feature race.
The last time the ACT Tour visited Seekonk was in 2007, when Joey Polewarczyk drove his No. 97 Pole’s Automotive Chevrolet into victory lane, beating out Jean Paul-Cyr. The highest finishing Seekonk regular was Kevin Casper, who drove his Phil’s Propane No. 88 to an eighth place finish.
In 2006, Roger Brown scored the Bay State 100 victory at Seekonk, beating out Phil Scott to the checkers. Highest finishing Seekonk regular Ryan Vanasse placed in fifth spot. Late Models compete weekly at Seekonk, under the exact same technical rules that the ACT Tour does. The event will allow Seekonk regulars to compete on the tour without making any adjustments under the hood.
The event will be the same week as a Tuesday night July 12 midweek event that is a U.S. National Pro Stock Championship race. The reason the Pro Stocks have the night off on Saturday is so drivers will have enough time to convert their cars back and fourth to compete under open rules on the 12th and regular Seekonk rules July 23.
