Modifieds at Claremont Speedway spice up the race card

Claremont Speedway racing
The open wheel Modifieds return to Claremont Speedway kicked up the racing action up another notch.

Tour type Modifieds returned to Claremont Speedway for the first time in four years on Friday night, but it was the racing in the four weekly divisions that stole the show. The Late Models and Limited Sportsman both saw first time winners and a struggling Richardson motor sports team broke through for the second time in 2015.

Hayden Scott has made the Sanel Auto Parts his personal playground over the last several weeks and Friday night was no different. Scott was able to get to the lead early and build as much as a straightaway lead. Craig Smith worked his way to second but that’s were his charge would stall as he was overmatched by Scott on this night. Behind the front pair the racing was fierce as multiple drivers battled for top five finishing positions. Alex Poisson who had a right front wheel come off last week wound up in the top three for the first time ever after some great racing with fourth place finisher Jordan Richardson. Richardson was able to hold off Alexis Aiken in a great battle all the way to the checkers. Heat races were won by Kyle Currier and Hayden Scott.

Randy McGee returned to Claremont Speedway Limited Sportsman competition in a big way Friday night. After an epic battle with Kenny Thompson he was able to roll into victory lane with his first Claremont Speedway win. Thompson, who had maybe the save of the year off turn two, would wind up in second. Gary Colburn who got turned around early in the race was able to battle back for a solid third place finish with Bryan Town and Chris Emerson rounding out the top five in a most entertaining race. The heat race win would go to Tyler Janovsky.

The R. E. Hinckley Super Street Feature was as always, a barn burner. A three way battle for the lead in the closing laps was by no means the only action during the thirty lap event. Jack McClay in the Richardson Motorsports car started on the inside of row three and patiently worked his way to the front. John Lavoie would start directly behind McClay and follow him to the front with Russ Davis in tow. Those three would battle it out for the top spot with McClay holding on for the win. Lavoie and Davis would hold station in second and third while Ben Poland and Dylan Bodreau would hold on to finish fourth and fifth. Joe Tetreault and Bodreau were the winners of a pair of very entertaining heat races.

The North American Infrared Late Model division has become one of the most competitive division to run each week. Rookies Tyler Alati and Jeff Morse would start on the front row and battle for the win for the majority of the forty lap event. Morse would get to the front early and never lose the lead but it was not without challenge. Tyler Alati would throw everything he had at Morse while at the same time trying to hold off the charges of Jeremy Zullo. Zullo, who has come on strong of late, would have to settle for third behind Morse and Alati while Allen Fellows and Bucky Demers would round out the top five. In heat race competition it was Allen Fellows and Demers visiting victory lane.

The final event of the night was the first feature in four years for the mighty Modifieds. Second generation driver Joey Jarvis was able to work his way from a mid pack starting position to the lead at lap 18. From there he would have things all his way. Several restarts during the second half of the event would allow the competition to close up on the back of Jarvis but each time he would drive back to the lead. In the end Jarvis would take the win over veteran Rusty Ball who would battle back to second after going to the back of the pack for an early race incident. Third would go to Josh Cantera in the venerable 71ME while Nick Boivin and Karl Fredrickson rounded out the top five. Joey Jarvis would take home the half way leader bonus as well as the hard charger award while Ball and Jim Storace would win their respective heat races.

This Friday night it will be the four divisions of the Twin State Property Maintenance Racing Series as well as a massive fireworks display brought to you by Noise R Us Fireworks and Twin State Property Maintenance. The following week, July tenth, the Valenti Modified Racing Series will make its first visit to the Thrasher Road speed plant in four years.
