Bryan Narducci looking for redemption in Stafford’s SK Light Division

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Coming off a season where he finished runner-up in the championship standings by the slimmest of margins, 2 points, Colchester native Bryan Narducci is looking to lay claim to the SK Light championship this season.  The Wild Thing Kart graduate and 2016 Sr. Outlaw champion will return to Stafford behind the wheel of the same #01 The Florida Connection Chevrolet that carried him to 5 wins during his rookie campaign in the SK Lights and with not much change, Narducci is confident that he will once again be among the title contender this season.

“We’re looking pretty good for 2019,” said Narducci.  “We just got the car wrapped from Tom Abele and other than that we’re pretty much ready to go.  We did a few updates on the car, it has a new body and the car will have a slightly different look from last season.  Our goal is to win as many races as we can and run for the championship.  After coming so close to the championship last year, we want to push even harder to try to win it this year and keep the car up front and make all our sponsors happy.  Thanks to The Florida Connection with my Uncle Greg and Aunt Venetta, Curley’s Kids Care, Baldwin Automotive, Preece’s Auto, Robert B. Our Construction, Waddell Communications, Pioneer Valley Wheel Repair, EB Exterminating, Tom Froment for letting us borrow his truck to get the car to the track sometimes, and everyone in Todd’s shop that helps me out whenever I need help.  It’s not that long until we’ll be racing again and it’s always good when the off-season goes by quickly.”

As an SK Light rookie last season, Narducci’s performance was nearly flawless.  He scored a career high in the win column with 5, surpassing the 4 wins he had in the Limited Late Model division in 2017.  Narducci also scored an incredible 13 top-4 finishes in the first 15 races of the season, but several finishes of 15th or worse in the final five races of the season erased the point lead he had built.  He was eventually overtaken by Marcello Rufrano for the championship in the final race of the season. Narducci is looking to work on his restart skills as he prepares for the 2019 season.

“I don’t know that we can get the car much better than it was,” said Narducci.  “Last year the car was pretty much perfect most nights thanks to Todd Owen and Butch Shea.  If anything, I think it comes down to me as the driver.  One thing that was a killer all season for me was restarts.  I definitely need to get better on restarts and luckily I have a great transmission builder with my Uncle Jeff.  When I was in the Limited Late Model I seemed to get good restarts but I don’t know if it’s because the tires have more grip with the SK Light or if I just mistimed some things, but I think I lost the championship last year because I missed a shift on the restart with 4 laps to go in the final race.  I have to work on hitting the restarts every time this year.”

With Rufrano and Andrew Molleur, who won a combined 10 SK Light races between them last season, both moving up to the SK Modified® division this season, it may look like an easier path to winning races, but Narducci is quick to point out that the competition level in the SK Lights will be as high as ever this season.

“This year both Marcello Rufrano and Andrew Molleur are moving up to the SK Modifieds® and we were three of the guys that were always up front together last season,” said Narducci.  “I think Alexander Pearl is going to be really fast this year, Mikey Flynn is going to be right there, Steven Chapman and Teddy Hodgdon will both be there, so even though Marcello and Andrew are moving up, there’s still going to be the same amount of fast cars every Friday night and the competition is going to be stiff again.  It’s going to be tough to get wins this season but as long as we have a fast car that handles well every week and we can stay out of trouble, I hope we can at least match or be better than we were last season.”

With Narducci’s eyes set on contending for the championship again this season, he will be looking to replicate his performance from 2018 with consistent finishes towards the front of the field in the opening races to get a good start on his championship quest.

“You definitely want to get a top-5 finish at the Sizzler, if not a win,” said Narducci.  “Last year we had 13 top-4 finishes in the first 15 races, so it’s important to get off to a good start and maintain that throughout the summer.  We started off last season really fast and we were still fast when we got to the middle of the year but it was a lot tougher to hit the setup just right for the feature when it got dark out and the track cooled down during the summer.  A good start to the season will help propel you to get better and better while a bad start will leave you trying to dig out of a hole.”

Narducci has had a busy off-season in keeping himself sharp for the upcoming SK Light season.  Narducci tested an ARCA car at Daytona and ran the indoor TQ Midget event in Atlantic City at the end of January.  Narducci also spends plenty of time logging virtual laps at Stafford through iRacing.

“I went to Atlantic City and had a chance to run a TQ Midget,” said Narducci.  “We didn’t make the main race, but it was a great experience that helped keep me sharp during the winter and I also had the chance to test an ARCA car for Chris Our.  I’ve also been playing a lot of iRacing with Mike Christopher, Jr. and that also helps keep me sharp for the upcoming season.  I’m excited.  Running the indoor race and going to Daytona helped keep me on my toes and it gave me a big itch to get back to racing at Stafford.  I can’t wait for the end of April to bring our beautiful #01 car out on the track.

The 2019 SK Light season will kick off at the 48th Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler® on April 26-28. Tickets for the “Greatest Race in the History of Spring” are on sale now by calling the Speedway Box Office 860-684-2783 or online at www.staffordspeedway.com.

INDOOR AUTO RACING SERIES FUELED BY VP RACE FUELS 2019 TITLES TO BE DECIDED MARCH 8-9 FOR TQ MIDGETS, SLINGSHOTS AND KARTS IN ALL NEW SYRACUSE EXPOSITION ENTER. TITLE RACES WIDE OPEN; COMPLETE SHOWS SET FOR ALL THREE CLASSES

SYRACUSE, NY February 27, 2019 . . . The cars and stars of the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels headlining Three Quarter (TQ) Midgets are readying for Round 4 and Round 5 on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 inside the all new Exposition Center on the New York State Fairgrounds.

While well over 50 drivers will be seeking victory in the features run each night, the biggest prize in Syracuse will be the crowning of the 2019 Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels. Round 3 and Round 4 for the companion Slingshots and Champ Karts is also on the Syracuse card which is being presented by RPM Raceway.

Each of the two nights of racing will consist of complete programs of qualifying, heat races and feature events for the TQ Midgets, Slingshots and Champ Karts. This is the first time the Indoor Auto

Racing Series has ever presented full three division programs on consecutive nights.

On Friday, March 8, TQ Midgets will run in single car time trials followed by heat races and B Mains climaxed by a 24-car, 40-lap feature.

The next night, Saturday, March 9, TQs will re-qualify, this time in group qualifying sessions, another first for the Indoor Auto Racing Series. Heats, B Mains and a 24-car, 40-lap A Main follow with the TQ Midget champion to be crowned at the end of the night.

Slingshots and Champ Karts will draw for starting spots in their heats races both days with a 20-car, 20-lap A Main for both classes each night.

Doors open at 6 PM on Friday night with racing beginning at 7:30. Doors open at 5:30 PM on Saturday with racing at 7pm. Fans will be able to visit the pit area to see the cars and meet the drivers each night until 30 minutes before the racing begins.

North Carolina resident, New Jersey native Ryan Flores leads the standings, with 290 after the first three races. Flores, who works full time for Roger Penske’s Ryan Blaney NASCAR Monster Energy Cup team, will not be in the Syracuse field.

Erick Rudolph, Ransomville, NY, 260, and Justin Bonsignore, Holtsville, LI, NY, 239, Andy Jankowiak, Tonawanda, NY, 220, and Eddie Strada, Lake Ariel, PA, 213, are second through fifth.

A maximum of 210 points are available, 100 for a feature win and five points for quick time each night, meaning that 210 markers can be picked up by any TQ competitor over the Syracuse race weekend. Non qualifiers earn 10 points for each night, a minimum of 20 points for the weekend. Thus the most points any driver can gain is 190.

By subtracting 190 (maximum points) from Rudolph’s 260 points total, any TQ driver within 70 points, in theory, could win the Indoor Auto Racing Series TQ title. That includes the next 21 drivers outside the top five, in the standings: Matt Janisch, Tim Buckwalter, Earl Paules, Scott Kreutter, Briggs Danner, Matt Roselli, Anthony Payne, Anthony Sesely, Chad Jones, Kyle Lick, Jonathan Reid, Timmy Catalano, Ryan Tidman, Tyler Thompson, Joey Payne, Kyle Reinhardt, Pat Bealer, Andrew Molleur, Lou Cicconi, Tommy Catalano and Brett Conkling.

The point title chases in both the Champ Kart and Slingshot classes is far less complicated. A maximum of 100 points is available for each feature, a minimum of 10 points is awarded for each non-qualifier each night.

With a theoretical points swing of 180 points over two races, any Syracuse entrant in the Champ Kart races could surpass leader Brandon Rusczek, Wallingford, CT, (170), and any Syracuse entrant in the Slingshot races could surpass points leader Tyler Truex, Mayetta, NJ (150).

The Exposition Center opened during the Labor Day Fair. The huge, state of the art $33 million project was built without obstructing poles. Grandstand seating will be available on both the front and backstretch. From their seats, fans will able to be able to see the entire speedway plus the pit area which will be located on the far side of the building.

The building has a different seating configuration than other venues the series stops at in that grandstand patrons enter at track level, then walk up to seating areas.

Information including a direct link to E-Tix for advance tickets is available at www.indoorautoracing.com.

At this location spectators may select choice seats from three sections located on both the front and the backstretch. Tickets can also be purchased by calling E-Tix directly at 1-800-514-3849. Tickets will also be available each day of the event starting at 2 PM at the Expo Box Office, but prices increase by $5 each on the days of the event.

Indoor race information, including ticket and hotel links, are available at indoorautoracing.com. Other information including sponsorship packages is available by calling the series office during regular working hours at 609-888-3618.

Construction begins on Ricky Carmichael Signature Design for DAYTONA Supercross

Note: The Monster SuperX alternates between the Meadowlands in NJ and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA on the last Saturday in April.  The SuperX will be returning to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on the last Saturday in April 2020.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 26, 2019) – Construction has begun in the tri-oval area between pit road and the start/finish line to create the course for the DAYTONA Supercross, the only Supercross event in the state of Florida, scheduled for Saturday night, March 9.

For the 12th straight year, Supercross legend Ricky Carmichael returns as the course designer and Bomber Built, owned by three-time AMA 125cc National Motocross Champion Mark Barnett, is building the course. Five-time DAYTONA Supercross champion Carmichael retired from Supercross in 2007 as the most decorated rider in history with 15 AMA championships and 150 wins.

This year’s Ricky Carmichael Signature Design course places the starting gate at the center of pit road with competitors racing in a counter-clockwise direction, which is a change from last year.

Daytona International Speedway has been hosting the DAYTONA Supercross since 1971, making it the longest continuous supercross event in America. Justin Brayton, riding the No. 10 MotoConcepts Racing Honda, will be looking to defend his DAYTONA Supercross title. Not only was the 2018 DAYTONA Supercross the first win of Brayton’s 450SX career, he also became the oldest rider to win a Monster Energy AMA Supercross event, with the victory coming just four days before his 34th birthday.

Here’s a look at some of the numbers behind the construction of this year’s DAYTONA Supercross course:

300  Truckloads of dirt

6,600 – Tons of dirt

12 – Trucks used to transport the dirt into the Speedway

2 – Days to bring all of the dirt into the track

40 – Obstacles on the DAYTONA Supercross course

621 – Tuff Blox

3,100 – Length in feet of the Supercross course

900– Man-hours (approximate) to set up the DAYTONA Supercross course

In addition, three crawlers, two front loaders, two bobcats, one sheep’s foot, two skid steers, one roller, and one grader are used to move the dirt during construction.

The supercross pits will be staged in the blue garages, located adjacent to the UNOH Fanzone through which fans can access the pits from noon to 6 p.m. – admission is included with your race ticket.

Also returning in 2019 will be the 10th annual Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross. Scheduled for Sunday, March 10 and Monday, March 11, amateur supercross racers will have an opportunity to test their skills on the same course used in the DAYTONA Supercross. Following the Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross will be the inaugural Daytona Vintage Supercross (DVSX) and ATV Supercross, both of which will kick off Tuesday, March 12, with practice at 7:30 a.m. and racing action immediately following.

American Flat Track returns with the unique, dirt-and-asphalt DAYTONA TT season opener on Thursday, March 14. The third annual event will feature a totally redesigned track constructed in the iconic Daytona International Speedway tri-oval that will use the legendary tri-oval start/finish asphalt straightway as part of the actual racing surface and form its high-speed frontstraight.

Riders aboard their AFT Twins and AFT Singles racing machines will come out of the DIS eastern dirt corner and drift onto the asphalt and across the start-finish line at over 100 mph.

Tickets for all Bike Week At DAYTONA events are now on sale atwww.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP. General admission tickets for DAYTONA Supercross start at $45 and youth tickets (ages 6-12) are $15; kids five and under are free in general admission frontstretch seating. New this year, fans can upgrade their Supercross experience with The Roost. Starting at $90, The Roost provides some of the closest access on the circuit and includes Trackside Access, which allows fans to also view the event while standing on the frontstretch of the Speedway’s famous tri-oval.

Travis Hydar looking to continue Top-10 Streak in Stafford’s Street Stocks

(Stafford Springs, CT)—When Stafford Speedway’s Street Stock cars take to the track for the first time in 2019 during NAPA Spring Sizzler Weekend on April 27-28, Woodbury, CT native Travis Hydar will be looking to continue a streak of top-10 finishes that began midway through the 2018 season.  Hydar and and the #11 Hydar Construction team struggled through the first half of 2018, but he recorded 11 consecutive top-10 finishes, including a win and four consecutive top-5 finishes at the end of the year, to climb up to fourth place in the final points standings.  With such a strong finish, Hydar is looking forward to the 2019 season.

“We’re feeling pretty good about the 2019 season,” said Hydar.  “Last season we had some ups and downs but coming out of the end of the year on a pretty strong note gives us some confidence going into the first part of the 2019 season.  At the beginning of last season we were fighting an ill-handling car so we tried something completely different and it hit and worked so we ran with it for the second half of the season.  If the second half of the season, especially the last quarter of the year, is going to be any indication of how 2019 is going to go for us, I think we’re going to have a pretty strong season.  I have to thank all our sponsors, My Mom and Dad with Hydar Construction, my Uncle with Splashwater Delivery, IPS Electric, Chris Jones Roofing & Siding, ToolsPlus.com, Superior Signs, Eastwood Fine Finishes, and Bushka Lumber.”

Hydar finished fourth in the Street Stock standings as a rookie in 2017 and he matched that output with his strong finish to the 2018 season.  Hydar has won a race in each of his first two seasons and with a little more consistency on his side, he is looking to continue his winning ways and contending for the championship this season.

“It would have been cool to have a few more wins last season but we were pretty happy with just getting a win,” said Hydar.  “We’re certainly looking to win some races and hopefully we can be a contender in the championship race at the end of the season.  We’d like to have strong and consistent finishes where we’re running up front every week.  Being able to win in our rookie season was a huge confidence builder knowing that we could win races.  Winning again last year gave us assurance that we didn’t win by accident and it gives us the confidence that we can keep on winning races.”

While Hydar is focused on winning races and being a championship contender this upcoming season, he is also excited about the prospect of winning some bonus money from the newly announced Royal Screw Machine Products Street Stock (RMSPCO.com) Triple Crown.  The RSMPCO.com Triple Crown consists of three 30-lap events and will award points to determine a Triple Crown champion at the NAPA Auto Parts Fall Final.  Points will be awarded to the top-10 finishers in each Triple Crown event, with the winner receiving 10 points and the 10th place finisher receiving 1 point. Additionally competitors will receive 1 bonus point for each non-triple crown Street Stock event they compete in over the 2019 season.  The RSMPCO.com Triple Crown point fund will be $4,500 split among the top-10 finsihes with the winner taking home a $1,000 bonus.  Hydar likes the longer 30-lap races and with so much money on the line, he expects the competition to be at an all-time high.

“I’m really looking forward to the Triple Crown races,” said Hydar.  “I think it’s going to be a really cool deal and it’s going to amp up the intensity level for those 30-lap races.  Drivers are going to be bringing their A-Games for those three races and it’s really cool that Royal Screw Machine Company is putting up that big bonus for us.  The bonus money is something that I’m sure everyone is going to be working extra hard to get.  I personally enjoy the longer races.  The longer races have a lot more to do with strategy than being guns blazing for the whole race and you have to play more of a mental game for the longer races.  It would mean a ton for us if we were able to win that Triple Crown bonus.  It’s just me and my Dad working in the garage every week so it would be a huge payoff for us.  Everyone wants to win the Spring Sizzler race and making that a Triple Crown race is going to make everyone want to win it that much more.”

The 2019 season and the first event of the RSMPCO.com Street Stock Triple Crown are set for NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler weekend April 27th and 28th.  The Street Stocks will kick off their season with a 30-lap feature Saturday afternoon. Tickets are available online at staffordspeedway.com or by contacting the speedway box office at 860-684-2783.

N.H. SUPREME COURT SIDES WITH NHMS

Live Nation Country Music Festival Is A Go
s

The New Hampshire Supreme Court has cleared away the final hurdles to a proposed country music festival at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. After a nearly two-year process, the state’s highest court has ruled in the Speedway’s favor, clearing the way for a three-day music festival with Live Nation.

The Supreme Court issued an order affirming the decision of the Superior Court.

“This is absolutely terrific news for music fans, local businesses and for tourism in the Capitol Region, and we are preparing to move full-steam ahead,” said David McGrath, executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “Many thanks to both courts for a thorough review of the claims. We have our approvals from the Town of Loudon, and we are ecstatic to move forward. This has been a long time in the making, and we cannot wait to put on one heck of a show.”

As for the specific dates for the event, McGrath tells music fans to “stay tuned.” The country music festival will be held in the S6 Lot of NHMS property as originally proposed and approved. In partnership with Live Nation, this festival will include camping and three days of music from top country artists.

“Speedway Motorsports Incorporated is proud of its tradition of hosting high quality, family-oriented entertainment options at all of its facilities including NHMS,” added McGrath. “We know this will be a great event for the entire region, and we are ready to move forward.”

Churchill continues Legends Car return by entering Bullring Bash

Attleboro, Massachusetts (February 25, 2019) — Talented young veteran Jordan Churchill of Lisbon, CT has joined the Bullring Bash MSD Legends roster for its debut season. The multi-time winner at Connecticut’s New London-Waterford Speedbowl will bring his talent behind the wheel to the trio of all-star events while driving for his friend John O’Sullivan.“It’s cool to have a little traveling series,” Churchill said. “Being able to go to a couple different tracks other than just Waterford was what the turning point was. That and it’s supposed to be some of the best of the best in New England coming to race!”

“Everyone hopes to win, obviously, but for us, the goal is to hopefully get a good setup down and see how we stack up against all of the people that are going to be going,” Churchill added. “It’s definitely going to be a learning experience to try and figure out what the car likes and what exactly I like, because I’m used to the bigger tracks. So these tracks will hopefully be places to gain and see what I’m learning. It’s always better to go to different tracks and challenge yourself.”

Churchill broke out on the Legend Car scene in 2015 when he earned three wins at New London-Waterford and added another at Massachusett’s Seekonk Speedway. He then moved up to the Sport Trucks, and in 2017, Churchill scored a trio of podium finishes between partial schedules at the Speedbowl and with the Exit Realty ProTruck Series.

Churchill then returned to the Legend Car ranks in 2018 at Waterford driving part-time for John O’Sullivan, which was highlighted by a victory in the Masters Legends feature on August 25. The two will team up again for the Bullring Bash with sponsorship from Bozrah Collison Center, Prokop Signs, and SERVPRO of Windham County on the sides of Churchill’s #25 Ford Coupe.

“John O’Sullivan had two cars, and he and I decided to try and team up and work to get both of his cars as fast as possible – and it turned into me driving his back-up car for him,” Churchill said of his Legend Car comeback. “Then we saw the Bullring Bash, and we decided we might as well go try to tackle something new. Not that the Truck Series isn’t fun or wasn’t fun. Don’t get me wrong – it’s a good time. But we just had a lot more fun in the Legends. It works really well to have such a good friend that has two cars and likes being able to run two cars.”

Churchill has committed to running all three events for the Bullring Bash MSD Legends with his father Wally serving as crew chief. This includes events at N. Woodstock, NH’s White Mountain Motorsports Park on June 16 and August 10 plus a visit to Barre, VT’s Thunder Road Speedbowl on September 1. In addition, his own family team has sold their Sport Truck and purchased a new Legend Car to run at other events throughout the summer.

“I’m hoping people seeing this (series) make them realize that the Legend Cars are a lot cooler and a lot more fun than they might look,” Churchill concluded. “They look small, and people are like, ‘oh, that’s so cute.’ But they’re actually a handful to drive. It’s really exciting to see more of a traveling series instead of just a couple of tracks offering weekly series.”

The Bullring Bash Quarter Mile Challenge will have additional announcements regarding registered teams, sponsors, officials, and much more in the coming weeks.
