Bullring Bash Date Change Creates Huge Labor Day Weekend at Thunder Road

Barre, VT – A recent rescheduling has set up the 41st Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road to be one of the biggest weekends in the history of the event.

Officials from the Bullring Bash Quarter Mile Challenge Series recently announced that the “Rumble in the Quarry” Modified and Legend Car events at Thunder Road will now be held Sunday, September 1. The events were originally scheduled for Saturday, September 14, but have been moved due to a conflict with the Tri-Track Modified Series.

The addition of both events to the Labor Day Classic has created a massive weekend of racing to celebrate the end of summer at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement”. As a result, Labor Day weekend will now be a two-day event with six divisions of racing taking to the high banks, including the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) and all of Thunder Road’s weekly divisions.

“While we didn’t expect things to turn out this way, we’re excited that they did,” Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud said. “The Labor Day Classic has a long tradition going back to the very first year of racing at Thunder Road. Adding the Modifieds and Legend Cars to an already action-packed show really kicks things up a notch. It’s going to be a great way for our teams and fans to send off the summer in style.”

Saturday, August 31 will begin with optional open practice for the ACT Late Model Tour, Modifieds, and Legend Cars from 12 pm to 3:35 pm. Then at 6 pm, Thunder Road presents a full card of racing for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. All three divisions will run extra-distance features at the special Saturday night show.

On Sunday, September 1 at 1:30 pm, Thunder Road will host the ACT Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200 along with the 3-segment Rumble in the Quarry 125 for the Modifieds and the Rumble in the Quarry 35 for the Legend Cars. All three divisions will have full qualifying to go with their long-distance, added-purse main events.

Thunder Road officials expect to make additional announcements regarding the Saturday, September 14 Championship Night event in the coming days. While the Modifieds and Legend Cars will no longer be part of the program that night, the track is working on a card of racing that is fitting of being the final point-counting event of the season.

Tremont Jr. crowned champion; Tremont Sr. receives John Bruno Award

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil’s Bowl Speedway celebrated its champions and top performers from the 2018 stock car racing season on Saturday, January 26, at the annual Banquet of Champions.  A crowd of well over 300 guests honored more than 80 drivers and special award winners during the event, which was held at the Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington in Rutland, Vermont.

The Tremont family of West Sand Lake, New York, received the biggest cheers during the evening; driver Kenny Tremont Jr., was officially crowned for the ninth time in his career as the Devil’s Bowl Speedway track champion, while his father and car owner, Ken Tremont Sr., was the recipient of the seventh annual John Bruno Award – the track’s highest honor.

Tremont Sr.’s award – given in memory of the late driver and car owner John Bruno – recognized his lifelong commitment to local racing while maintaining high standards of conduct.  At age 80, Tremont won his 11th Devil’s Bowl Speedway track championship as a car owner in 2018; along with the titles won with his son driving, he also won championships in 1970 with Joe Messina and in 1977 with Chuck Ely.

Tremont Jr. had a three-win season to capture the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division championship and the final Vermont State Championship under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner.  Tim LaDuc collected runner-up honors ahead of Joey Scarborough, Justin Comes, and Vince Quenneville.

First-year Modified racer Brent Warren of Salisbury, Vermont, collected the championship trophy in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman division.  A three-time race winner, Warren defeated Travis Billington, Paolo Pascarella, Joey Roberts, and Adam Piper.

Chris Murray of Fair Haven, Vermont, took his second consecutive title with a dominant, 10-win season in the Super Stock division, topping Scott FitzGerald, Curtis Condon, Lou Gancarz, and Josh Bussino.

Kaleb Shepard of Vergennes, Vermont, won the Portland Glass Mini Stock crown on the strength of five wins and was followed in the standings by Shawn Moquin, Mike Preston, Johnny Bruno, and Craig Kirby.

Cody O’Brien of Springfield, Vermont, was recognized as the youngest champion in Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s 52-year history, taking the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint title at age 13.  Austin Chaves, Shawn McPhee, Dakota Green, and Joel Belanger were next in line.

Will Hull of Plainfield, Vermont, was crowned the champion of the five-race Sprint Car series, while Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury, New York, earned the four-race 358 Modified title.  Brian Whittemore of Pittsford, Vermont, collected his first career championship in the five-race Central Vermont Motorcycles Challenger Series.

Several special awards were also given during the evening including Rookie of the Year, Sportsmanship, and Most Improved Driver laurels.  Marty Kelly III took the rookie title in the Sportsman Modified class with similar honors going to Andrew FitzGerald in the Super Stocks, Craig Kirby in the Mini Stocks, and Shawn McPhee in the 500cc Mini Sprints.

Sportsmanship awards – which are determined by a vote of drivers – went to Billy Lussier (Sportsman Modified), Brent Warren (Limited Sportsman), Scott FitzGerald (Super Stock), Johnny Bruno (Mini Stock), and Samantha Mulready (500cc Mini Sprint).

Most Improved Driver plaques – also determined by vote – were presented to Joey Scarborough (Sportsman Modified), Joey Roberts (Limited Sportsman), Andrew FitzGerald (Super Stock), Lynn Denton (Mini Stock), and Cody O’Brien (500cc Mini Sprint).

Also presented during the evening were two special annual honors; the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad received the Award of Excellence for its commitment to the immediate and future success of Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and Chief Scorer Charlotte McGinn was given the Dedication Award for her years of effort at the speedway.

Certificates were presented to many drivers on behalf of O’Reilly Auto Parts, Shiley Fabrication, and Central Vermont Motorcycles, and special plaques were also presented on behalf of NASCAR.  Bobco Racing Video and Big Al’s Photos provided videography and photography, and Heartbeat Entertainment provided sound and lighting.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s 2019 season will open on Sunday night, May 19.  Membership licenses and season passes are available now.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of U.S. Route 4, Exit 2, and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.

TTOMS reinforces series management for 2019

The Tri-Track Open Modified Series reorganizes the top management.

TTOMS REINFORCES SERIES MANAGEMENT FOR 2019

Seekonk, Mass. (January 27, 2019): The Tri-Track Open Modified Series (TTOMS) recently announced the addition of longtime car owner Ed Bennett to the management team. With a solid foundation that includes founders Dick Williams and Jim Schaefer, Wayne Darling and a host of respected officials, Bennett adds another level of management to ensure that the Series remains strong in 2019 and beyond.

In his new role, Bennett will concentrate on the operational side of the series. He will take over the race day responsibilities previously handled by Darling, who seeks to lessen his daily role.

“I want everyone, whether it’s a promoter, owner, driver or fan, to experience a nice smooth show,” said Bennett. “The Series is perfectly capable of doing that. I’m just here to help make that happen for all six races this season.”

With its most robust schedule to date, the 2019 TTOMS series will feature six races. The season kicks-off with the second annual Claremont 100 at Claremont Speedway on May 25, followed by long-established events like Open Wheel Wednesday at Seekonk Speedway on June 26 and the SBM 125 at Star Speedway on July 27.  New to the schedule includes the Oxford 100 at Oxford Plains Speedway on August 24 as part of the prestigious Oxford 250 weekend plus a trip to the Wrenn Family’s Monadnock on September 14. The 2019 season will conclude with the Haunted Hundred at Seekonk on October 26.

Bennett, a second-generation car owner, owned Modifieds for many years. He followed in the footsteps of his father, who owned Midgets.

The addition of Bennett to the TTOMS family comes as Mark Pennink steps way. Pennink joined the Series as part of the new ownership group that included Darling.

“It truly has been a pleasure working with Wayne, Jim, Dick and everyone,” said Pennink.

As racing was always a family affair for Pennink, the recent retirement of his son Rowan undoubtedly lessened the appeal of all the traveling.

“The distance from Philadelphia makes attending the races a rather big chore,” said Pennink. “But I am happy to be continuing my support of the series; just now as a sponsor.”

Preregistration for the 2019 TTOMS season is available by visiting tritrackmods.com/registration. Checks made payable to Tri Track Enterprise LLC may also be mailed to Jim Schaefer, 545 Sweezy Ave., Riverhead, NY 11901.

“During the 2019 season all competitors will vie for over quarter of a million dollars in purse money,” added new TTOMS Managing Partner Bennett. “We are going to make sure that not only is competing in this series lucrative but also fun and fair.”

Cooper Webb First 450SX Class Repeat Winner of 2019
and New Points Leader
Adam Cianciarulo Also Repeats in 250SX Class and Moves into
Second in Points
OAKLAND, Calif., (January 27, 2019) In an exciting Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship season that’s seen none of the pre-season favorites yet take a victory, Red Bull KTM’s Cooper Webb becomes the first rider to repeat a win, this time at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on a night that provided clear skies and a nail biting finish in front of 47,024 fans. Webb squeaked out the win less than a second ahead of teammate Marvin Musquin, and in doing so became only the 11th rider in Monster Energy Supercross history to back up a first 450SX Class win with another win. KTM rounded out the podium with third place going to Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM WPS’ Blake Baggett. The 250SX Class also saw the year’s first repeat winner, with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo taking his second win, matching his performance from two weeks ago.

From the drop of the gate in the 450SX Class Main Event it was Cooper Webb out front. He went on to lead every lap like he’d done it before, yet it was only his second win in the premier class. Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM WPS’ Justin Bogle was right behind, but Musquin was almost immediately past Bogle and taking up the challenge with his teammate Webb. Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s rookie Aaron Plessinger held off fellow rookie Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy for fourth place while Team Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen set his sights on both riders. Hungry for his first win in 2019 to hopefully jump start another of his legendary win streaks, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac circled mid pack for the first lap.

Musquin wasted no time pressing to get into position to pass to get his first win of 2019, but he could not close within striking distance of his teammate. After five minutes of racing the two were separated by just over one second; that’s when Musquin made a push. He dropped the gap to .7 seconds while behind them Roczen and Tomac were each on a steady climb through the pack.

At about the mid-point of the 20 minute plus one lap race, Musquin went down. As he remounted the battle between Savatgy, Roczen, and Tomac caught him. Musquin lost two positions to the group. Then Savatgy had what appeared to be a mechanical issue that took him out of the race. Musquin found his pace and passed back into second and set his sights on Webb. When the race clock reached zero and there was only one lap remaining, Musquin was over 2.5 seconds behind. He charged to within .7 seconds, but Webb remained composed and smooth and held the lead to take his second 450SX Class Main Event win of his career.
“I almost can’t believe it. I mean, I was good today, but I wasn’t anything like last weekend. It just shows, you never give up, you put your head down, and I definitely got a gift from Marv, his crashing, and he caught me at the end. I was so nervous. I don’t know why no one told me the second one’s harder than the first. But man, it’s honestly insane. Back to back, I guess I got the red plate… It’s pretty frickin’ awesome… I feel like everything, these last two years not being worth a crap, and to get back on top is awesome.” Cooper said after the race, referring to his two previous years in the 450SX Class.
About his mid race crash, Musquin said, “I think I relaxed too much. It was intense. Physically it’s tough out there, I’m definitely getting better [from a pre-season knee injury]. I was able to ride all week. I’m getting better and better but that was tough. That track was definitely difficult for everyone and especially those whoops, but I figured it out in the Main and I was able to pass some guys and, yeah, it’s frustrating. I rode really well and I’m really happy. I mean, it could have been mine, you know, tonight, but it happens. So, no excuses. I went down, but I was the fastest, to be able to pass Tomac back, and Roczen, I don’t know if Roczen had an issue in the whoops or something, but I was able to get through them easier and I was more consistent too. Baggett was behind me and pretty fast, too, but I’m a little bit bummed. Finishing a little bit behind Cooper is not fun but I’m making progress. Second place is good, it’s a lot of points, but I want to win for sure”
In response to reaching the podium after a 17th place start, Baggett said, “Yeah it was not a good start. I got wheel spin right outside the gate, just didn’t execute it right. But it is what it is, I fought my way through. I was feeling great in the middle of the race and just ran out a little in the end, just kind of lost my mojo.”
The 250SX Class Main Event also had a winner who held the lead from the beginning, also had plenty of action and challenges for the lead and awarded the win to the first repeat winner of the year. This time it was Cianciarulo setting the lead pace while it was Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Colt Nichols, TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Shane McElrath, and Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis who put on the charges. Cianciarulo, who has been working on smoothing out his riding and not getting ahead of himself while in the heat of battle, looked to be pushing a little too hard in the early laps, causing a few bobbles that kept his pursuers close. He soon smoothed out and got a cushion to ride more relaxed. Meanwhile, Ferrandis was charging hard from 11th place and late in the race made contact with his teammate Nichols for the pass into second. Ferrandis got the lead down to under a second on Cianciarulo, but a mistake that forced him to double jump a triple gave Cianciarulo enough of a gap to bring home the win without too much pressure at the checkered flag.

Cianciarulo admitted to the NBC Sports cameras he was exhausted after the race. “I’m so proud of myself today. My team, myself. People know me, and they know I’m good in those harder [packed dirt] tracks but notoriously I’ve struggled when it comes to ruts. Man, it was not pretty. I was all over the place in the whoops, hopefully you guys didn’t get too many shots of me going through there. The track was physically tough, physically demanding, and these guys were breathing down my neck the whole time.” He admitted to his fans and the broadcast announcers that he’s working on calming down and smoothing out, “We gotta keep it up, gotta keep it consistent, smart. I know guys, I know I’ve got to calm down a little bit, so we’ll try to bring this momentum into San Diego.”
Ferrandis is ready for a win this season and he was disappointed to come from so far back in the pack and get so close to that first win of 2019 yet not manage to make the final pass. The Frenchman said, referencing a mid-week practice track crash, “It’s a little frustrating to finish second again but I mean, I did a good race… I’m happy I came back from behind. I passed some of my main rivals and gained points on the leadership [board], so that’s important. But [I had] some issues early this week, so I wasn’t sure I could race tonight but I felt good and strong and next weekend in San Diego we’ll see.”
Colt Nichols, the points leader since round one, held onto that championship lead with a third- place finish, duplicating his finish from the previous round, “It’s always tough. Once you win you get that taste of victory and that’s all you want. But overall, I can’t complain. I’m on the podium again, I just felt like I kind of let it slip away in that Main Event. I was pressuring Adam really good and then a few of my own little mistakes and Dylan was able to catch me and pass me. Hats off to these two guys, this track was very, very demanding and a very high heart rate track. It was tough and I just kind of fell off a little bit, and that’s on me.”
Monster Energy Supercross travels south next weekend for its final stop in California for this season at round five at Petco Park in San Diego.

MATT JANISCH, RYAN FLORES, ANDY JANKOWIAK AND TOMMY CATALANO CLAIM THREE QUARTER MIDGET A-MAIN QUALIFIERS; FAST TIME RUDOLPH CRASHES; GAMBLER’S CLASSIC GOES SATURDAY NIGHT

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 25, 2019 . . . Four popular Three Quarter (TQ) Midget drivers, Matt Janisch, Nazareth, PA, Ryan Flores, Troutman, NC, Andy Jankowiak, Buffalo, NY and Tommy Catalano, Ontario, NY raced to victory Friday night in four 20-lap TQ qualifying races that helped determine the starting order for tonight’s Gamblers Classic, the headline race of NAPA KNOW HOW Weekend inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

The four winners each had their challenges before winning the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels Friday races.

Janisch’s win in the first race came after he survived a tangle with leader Kyle Reinhardt. Joey Bailey ended up second.

“We didn’t run that well and have some speed to find,” Janisch said. “Being locked in for tomorrow is a great advantage.”

Flores emerged from a mid-race half-spin on a track slickened by leakage from a rival’s car that took out contender Jeremy Haudricourt, who, unlike Flores couldn’t save his car. Earl Paules finished second.

Flores alluded to the spin and win. “I got kind of lucky there, we’ll take it,” Flores said. “The track has been challenging, different. But it’s the same for everybody else.”

Jankowiak’s unusually conservative driving in the third heat resulted in victory when he flew by Kyle Lick and John Ivy for the win with Ivy holding for second.

“This is my first press conference, and it’s pretty cool,” Jankowiak said. “I kept changing setups in practice, and they were all good. I’m in a good place right now.”

Catalano and Briggs Danner ran bumper to bumper for half the race before getting together. Catalano half spun and kept going, Danner spun and brought out the yellow flag.  Justin Bonsignore was the opportunist, finishing second.

“By not time trialing well we started up front in the heat and that proved to be a break for us,” Catalano said. “We were fighting the track and shot from the hip and it worked.”

A popular win kicked off the Friday night TQ Midget qualifying when Randy Cabral, driving the car formerly driven by victory in Boardwalk Hall by the late Ted Christopher, won the 15-lap Dr. Lowe Non-Qualifiers race.

The race, conceived by Dr. Lowe to reward drivers who had not qualified for either of the two Allentown Indoor races earlier this month, conveyed to Cabral a starting spot in the Gambler’s Classic Saturday.

In Slingshot heat race action, Dan Morgiewicz, Jr., Al Gerhart and Alex Tardiff won the three events. Tom Hennessey and Chris Predmore climbed out of their wrecked Slingshots, with assistance, after slamming into the fence.

Zachary Asklar, DJ Doyle and Tyler Brown won the three Champ Kart heat races.

In Friday afternoon qualifying, 61 TQ Midgets took time with Erick Rudolph setting quickest over Anthony Sesely. Rudolph was 52nd to take time, Sesely tenth to post, a testament to the well prepared and consistent racing surface. Andy Jankowiak, third fastest, was 34th in the time trial order while Justin Bonsignore, fourth on the clock, took to the track 13th in the running order.

Three TQ drivers spun during their laps on the clock, Brian Montieth, Chad Jones and Joey Jarowicz.

Forty-four Slingshot drivers took their shots at the clock and forty-two Champ Kart racers did the same.

Saturday, spectator gates to Boardwalk Hall open at 5:00 PM with Fanfest, a meet-and-greet session for premium ticket holders, on the track preceding the races.

Saturday racing begins at 7:00 PM with TQ Midget Champ Kart and Slingshot qualifying races leading up to a 20-lap Champ Kart main event and a Slingshot feature of the same distance.

The climactic race of the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels NAPA KNOW HOW Weekend is the 17th running of the Gambler’s Classic over a 40-lap distance. Ryan Flores is the defending champion of the race.

Once the checkered flag falls to end the Gambler’s Classic, the Indoor Auto Racing Series moves to upstate New York over the weekend of March 8-9, 2019 for the first running of indoor racing inside the New York State Exposition Center in Syracuse, NY.  TQ Midgets, Champ Karts and Slingshots will be featured and Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Race Fuels champions will be crowned in all three classes.

Kevin Nowak, Nowak Motorsports to Contest Inaugural Bullring Bash Season

Attleboro, MA (January 25, 2019) — Experienced Legends racer Kevin Nowak will join the Bullring Bash Quarter Mile Challenge for its inaugural season, with plans to compete in all three 2019 events. Nowak will be behind the wheel of his familiar #53 Nowak Motorsports car, competing at both White Mountain Motorsports Park and Thunder Road International Speedbowl this summer.

“I just enjoy competing in the Legends class overall and competing for a decent purse payout like the Bullring Bash is offering makes it easier to attend,” said Nowak. “It’s fun racing these cars, and to go to an event like this, it’s going to draw bigger competitors. I’m interested in racing against the guys that have more experience and put on a better show for the fans. To attend an event like this with the prestige and money involved is great, and hopefully it’s something that can grow in the future with even more tracks and events in other states.”

“Our goal with the Bullring Bash is to attract some of the most talented competitors in short track racing, in both the Modified and Legends classes,” said Bullring Bash founder Josh Vanada. “Having drivers like Kevin come to New England to compete with us proves two things: our structure is strong enough to attract top drivers from outside of the region, and our races will be all-star shows unlike any other this year. We look forward to welcoming Kevin alongside the rest of our top Legends drivers in 2019!”

Based in New York, Nowak has been racing Legends cars for over a decade, with an estimated 300 races under his belt and wins at multiple tracks in the northeast United States including Riverhead Raceway, Wall Stadium Speedway and Evergreen (PA) Raceway. While Nowak has competed at some of the most familiar short tracks in the country, he will bring his familiar “Herbie the Love Bug” tribute paint scheme to both White Mountain and Thunder Road for the first time in 2019.

“I’ve never been to either facility, but I’ve watched videos of both, and they look like fun,” Nowak explained. “Both of these tracks look similar in size and speed compared to my local track Riverhead Raceway which is also a quarter-mile bullring. So, it relates to what I’ve been racing in Legends cars over the years.”

Veteran Scott Cook returning to Stafford Speedway Late Model competition

I

(Stafford Springs, CT)—When Stafford Speedway’s Late Model division takes its first green flag of the 2019 season at the NAPA Spring Sizzler®, scheduled for April 26-28, a familiar face will be returning to the ranks.  After a 2-year layoff, Uncasville, CT native Scott Cook will back behind the wheel of his #27 Erasable Images Powerwashing Chevrolet.  Cook won Rookie of the Year honors in 2001 and he raced Late Models through the 2016 season.  After making selected Limited Sportsman starts at Thompson and Waterford over the past several seasons, as well as racing on Monday nights with his daughters Sydney and Peyton, Cook is ready to come back to the Stafford half-mile.

“I’ve stayed busy racing a couple times at Waterford and racing at Thompson was really where I got the itch to come back to Stafford, which is the track I prefer racing at,” said Cook.  “I talked with Tom Butler, Stu and Tom Fearn and they all encouraged me to come back.  I’m excited for this season.  My daughters Sydney and Peyton have been kart racing on Monday nights and doing well there, I got Chase started in the Late Models, and I still have the competitiveness inside me to go racing.  The other thing that got me wanting to race again was how well Tyler Leary has run the past 2 seasons since that’s my old #5 car.  After seeing how well he’s done and knowing we have a good car, why not come back?  I love racing at Stafford, the Arute’s put on a great show, Tom Fox and Scott Tapley do a great job with the drivers, and Stafford has the best competition.  Out of the three tracks I’ve raced, Stafford is my favorite.”

Cook will return to the Late Model ranks with a Mike Quintiliano car that he ran during the 2016 season at Stafford.  Cook is looking to establish himself as a consistent top-5 car on a week to week basis and he has enlisted former Stafford track champion Jay Stuart to help with his chassis setup as well as finding some extra crew help and sponsorship.

“The car is an old Mike Quintiliano car but it only has about 9 races on it,” said Cook.  “Mike ran a couple of races with it and did pretty well.  Jay Stuart has gone through the car and it’s been great to work with him again as well as Donny Wood from R.A.D. Auto Machine.  I think those 2 things are going to make the difference for us this season as we were lacking a little in the chassis department.  If we can be a consistent top-5 car, we’ll have a shot at winning some races.  It’s going to be tough competition with Tommy Fearn, Tyler Leary, Kevin Gambacorta, Adam Gray and the Saunders twins to name a few.  The field is definitely looking stout..  It’s been a few years since I’ve been in the car so I’m looking for consistency this year.  If you can put yourself in the top-5 every week and have an opportunity then wins will come.  The biggest thing for me right now is I’m looking for a spotter and some extra sponsorship.  Stu Fearn and SAFCO Foam are going to be helping us out with some tires this season so a big thanks to him.  Anyone looking to help us out this season can call me at 860-367-4545.”

With Cook placing his focus on consistency during the 2019 season, he would like nothing more than to get back to NAPA Victory Lane.  Cook’s lone Late Model feature win came back on June 1, 2007 and although he has come close to a second win, it has yet to materialize.

“A win would be icing on the cake for me,” said Cook.  “I can still remember the night we won and the celebration we had.  It was a great feeling to have, especially winning a race at such a prestigious track like Stafford.  We won a couple of the Late Model 16 races, so it wasn’t our first time in victory lane, but it was the first 30-lap main feature that we won.  They always say the first win is the hardest, but it seems like it’s been harder for us to get back to victory lane a second time.  I want to say I’ve been in position to win a race 8 or 9 times since then but I’ve lost the lead with late cautions.  I lost the Spring Sizzler twice, Dillon Moltz beat us once and then Woody Pitkat beat us the other time.  We’ve usually been pretty good on opening day so hopefully we can have another good start to this season.”

As well as getting back to NAPA Victory Lane himself, Cook says the next best thing would be able to share the podium with his son Chase.

“That would be awesome,” said Cook.  “That’s a goal that we’ve talked about the last couple years and now that I’m back into racing, we’ll see if Chase and I can share the podium.”

In addition to his Late Model duties, Cook will once again be helping his daughters Sydney and Peyton on Monday nights in the Wild Thing Kart Series.  If things play out right, Cook says his daughters could one day be racing in a weekly division at Stafford.

“I love Monday nights with my daughters,” said Cook.  “Wade Gagner and his family do a great job with the Wild Thing Karts and I love being able to spend time with my kids and seeing them do well.  Sydney almost won a championship and both her and Peyton have won races.  In four years I think they’ve combined for about 20 feature wins so far so they’re doing well.  I wouldn’t mind seeing either of them racing one day in the SK Lights.  I’ll support them with whatever they want to do.”

The 2019 Late Model season will kick off at the 48th Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler® on April 26-28. Tickets for the “Greatest Race in the History of Spring” are on sale now by calling the Speedway Box Office 860-684-2783 or online at www.staffordspeedway.com.
