Curtis Gerry stays hot in PASS Super Late Model action with Beech Ridge 200 victory

The Scarborough, Maine oval hosted the PASS North Tour over the weekend among other assorted divisions from all over New England.

Scarborough, Maine — Curtis Gerry of Waterboro continued his recent dominance of the Maine Super Late Model scene with his second Pro All Stars Series North victory of the season Saturday in the Beech Ridge 200 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine.

Gerry, triumphant in a 150-lapper at Oxford Plains Speedway on the previous weekend, has four victories in his last five PASS North starts, s streak that began with a rich Oxford 250 score last August.  At Beech Ridge Gerry started in the middle of the field and worked his way into contention by the time a scheduled competition caution with 75 laps to go, allowing teams to change two tires and make other adjustments.

Gerry quickly worked his way from third into the lead within a couple of laps and led the final 73 laps to outdistance fellow former Beech Ridge NASCAR champion Reid Lanpher of Manchester.  Mike Hopkins of Hermon battled with defending PASS North Super Late Model champion Travis Benjamin for some 70 laps to earn a spot on the podium with Gerry and Lanpher.

Benjamin, who led a handful of laps before yielding to eventual winner Gerry, ended up in fourth position.  Two-time PASS North champion DJ Shaw of Center Conway, New Hampshire drove to his third top-five finish of the season and retained his lead in the current championship standings.

Hall of Famer Mike Rowe of Turner raced with the contenders throughout the marathon, finishing up in sixth position.  Multi-time PASS SLM kingpin Ben Rowe of Turner was seventh, in front of Hudson, New Hampshire’s Derek Griffith, winner of the season opener at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park last month.

Hometown Scarborough racer Garrett Hall led the race until just about the competition caution, but that break did no favors to the Blackpoint Motorsports gang, and they ended up in ninth position.  Likewise, Corey Bubar of Windham looked very strong until the break.  Bubar managed to stay in the top-ten.  Eleven cars finished all 200 laps, including six-time PASS North Super Late Model champion Johnny Clark of Farmingdale.

Defending PASS Modified champion Ben Tinker of New Gloucester scored his second victory of the season to stay atop the PASS Mods championship point standings.  Tinker needed almost half of the 40-lap distance to catch and pass the early race leader, Matty Sanborn of Windham.

Trevor Sanborn of East Parsonsfield chased Tinker through the field after both started the race at the back of the pack.  Sanborn posted an impressive second-place finish in the open-wheel class.  Freeport’s Jariet Harrison filled out the podium finishing positions.  Gary Shackford of Center Conway, New Hampshire and Poland’s Patrick Sullivan filled out the top-five rundown.

Emerson Cayer of Contoocok, New Hampshire prevailed in a 50-lap race for North East Mini Stock Tour competitors.  Berlin, New Hampshire native Cody Leblanc claimed runner-up honors.  Jarrod Soucy of Marlboro, Massachusetts earned the third-place trophy.

Duane Skofield of Plaistow, New Hampshire dominated the action in the 20-lap race for North East Classic Lites.  Maine racer Justin Larsen of Peru raced his ride to runner-up honors.  Weymouth, Massachusetts competitor Robbie Bryant was the third-place finisher in the 20-car field.

The next PASS North Super Late Model event is the Support 50 Legs 150 at Star Speedway in Epping, New Hampshire on Saturday, May 5.  Post time is 5:00 p.m.  For more information visit proallstarsseries.com or call (207) 539-8865.

Bren, Walker, Grassie, Billings and Coates score NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler Saturday feature victories at Stafford

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Motor Speedway opened its doors for racing in 2018 with feature events for its Limited Late Model and Street Stock divisions as well as the New England Truck Series and Vintage All-Stars as part of the Saturday NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler® Weekend festivities.  Taking down feature wins were Justin Bren in the Limited Late Model feature, Johnny Walker in the Street Stock feature, Chip Grassie and Glen Billings in the Vintage All-Stars feature events, and Allen Coates in the N.E. Truck Series feature.

The 20-lap Limited Late Model feature took the green with Duane Provost powering into the lead with R.J. Surdell right on his bumper in second.  Justin Bren was third and he quickly overtook Surdell to move into second on lap-2.  Ryan Fearn was fourth with Alexandra Fearn in fifth.

Bren continued his charge to the front by taking the lead from Provost on lap-4.  Surdell followed Bren into second to drop Provost back to third in the running order with Ryan and Alexandra Fearn continuing to make up the top-5.

With 5 laps to go, it was still Bren in command with Surdell and Provost locked in a duel for second behind him.  The two Fearns were still running fourth and fifth.  Bren went unchallenged to pick up a win in his return to Limited Late Model competition after sitting out the 2017 season.  Surdell finished second with Provost, Ryan Fearn, and Alexandra Fearn rounding out the top-5.

The 20-lap Street Stock feature took the green with Michael Hopkins taking the early lead with 2-time defending Street Stock champion Johnny Walker right behind him.  George Bessette, Jr. quickly took third with Vince Gambacorta and Nicole Chambrello making up the top-5.  Paul Boudon, Jr. spun in turn 3 to bring the caution out with 2 laps complete.

Walker stayed even with Hopkins on the restart before falling back into line in second as the two leaders completed the third lap.  Bessette was third with Chambrello fourth and Gambacorta in fifth.  Travis Hydar was sixth with Brandon Michael, Greg DeMone, Meghan Fuller, and Jason Lafayette making up the top-10.  Tess Beyer spun in turns 1+2 to bring the caution back out with 5 laps complete.

Hopkins again took the lead back under green with Walker right behind him.  Bessette, Chambrello, and Gambacorta continued to make up the top-5 with Hydar, Michael, Lafayette, Demone, and Fuller making up the top-10.  The leaders ran in line until lap-13 when Bourdon and Jonathan Zunitch came together in turn 2 and brought the caution out.

Walker tried a crossover move on Hopkins but Hopkins was able to maintain the lead with Walker in second.  Fuller got into the wall in turn 3 and collected Beyer to bring the caution right back out without completing a lap.

Hopkins took the lead but Walker took the lead from Hopkins in turn 1 on lap-15.  Bessette was able to pull alongside Hopkins for second but he caution came back out for Beyer, who spun in turn 2.

Walker took the lead on the restart with Hopkins pulling alongside Bessette in a fight for second.  Hopkins took the spot on lap-16 with Lafayette fourth and Chambrello fifth.  The cutoin came back out with 16 laps complete for a spin in turn 2 by Fuller and Nick Bendiak.

Walker again took the lead while Bessette got by Hopkins to move into second.  Chambrello was fourth with Gambacorta in fifth.  Bessette was glued to Walker’s back bumper as they took the white flag.  Walker held Bessette off over the final lap to take the first feature win of the 2018 season.  Hopkins finished third with Chambrello and Gambacorta rounding out the top-5.

In the 15-lap Vintage All-Stars amateur feature, Gregg Massini took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Scott Poirier taking second from Jocelyn Laliberte on lap-2.  Laliberte’s car dropped off the pace on lap-2 and he brought his car to pit road while Poirier took the lead from Massini on lap-3.  Dean Mizzoni took second from Massini on lap-4 with Daryl Dutch fourth.  The caution came out for a spin by Eddie Bohn in turn 1 with 6 laps complete.

On the restart, Massini and John Furno came together in turn 1 and brought the caution right back out.  The next restart saw Poirier take the lead with Mizzoni right behind him in second.  Dutch made a move to take over second on lap-8 with Seth Crocker up to fourth and Chip Grassie in fifth.

Dutch was hounding Poirier for the lead when on lap-12 Mizzoni took second going into turn 3.  Grassie then got around Dutch for third and then Mizzoni for second before the caution came out with laps complete for a spin in turn 3 by Art Merchant.

The restart saw the top-4 of Poirier, Grassie, Mizzoni, and Dutch two wide like a pace lap with Grassie taking the win by a nose over Poirier.  Dutch edged out Mizzoni for third at the line with Crocker taking fifth.

In the 15-lap Pro Vintage All-Stars feature, Ryan Preece and Ray Evernham swapped the lead on first lap and they swapped the lead again on lap-2 and lap-3 before the caution came out with 4 laps complete.  Preece fell to the back under the caution, putting Glen Billings and Ray Evernham on the front row.  Evernham took the lead but Billings was able to get back around him on lap-6 to move into the lead.  Jeff Hummel was now up to second with Marty Van Druten in third with Evernham and Preece dueling for fourth.

Preece drove around Van Druten and Evernham to take third on lap-11 as Gagner continued to lead with Hummel in second.  Evernham and Preece were dueling for third.  Billings led Hummel to the checkered flag with Preece edging out Evernham for third.  Van Druten finished fifth with El Herbert in sixth.

In the 25-lap N.E. Truck Series feature, Corey Coates took the lead at the green but the caution came out with 1 lap complete for spins in turn 1 by John Zoller and Mike Cavallaro.

Corey Coates took the lead on the restart with his father Allen Coates right behind him in second.  Andy Lindeman was third with Gerald Giordano, Jr. fourth and Jim Boyle fifth.  Dave Koenig spun on the backstretch to bring the caution out with 5 laps complete.

Corey Coates didn’t come up to speed on the restart allowing Allen Coates to streak into the lead with Lindeman  taking second.  Corey Coates settled into third with Giordano and Boyle making up the top-5.  Allen Coates began to stretch out his lead over Lindeman and Lindeman would lose second to Corey Coates on lap-10.  Giordano took third from Lindeman on lap-11 with Boyle in fifth as Allen Coates was still out front by a comfortable margin.

Giordano caught Corey Coates and got around him to move into second on lap-15.  Allen Coates was still out front with Lindeman fourth and Boyle fifth.  Josh Stringer was closing in on the duo of Lindeman and Boyle for fourth and fifth with 7 laps to go.  Stringer got around Boyle for fifth on lap-19 and he was all over the back bumper of Lindeman for fourth place.

Allen Coates went unchallenged to the checkered flag to take the win with Giordano, Corey Coates, Stringer, and Boyle rounding out the top-5.

National TV host Eric Bolling teams with NASCAR race team for Opioids campaign

AFTER LOSS OF SON TO OPIOIDS –  NATIONAL TV HOST ERIC BOLLING TEAMS WITH NASCAR’S RICK WARE RACING & KEVIN O’CONNELL FOR THE “RACE TO ERASE OPIOIDS” SUNDAY AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY

In 2017, Opioids Killed More People Than Car Accidents Or Gun Violence

(Talladega, AL—APRIL 26, 2018) — NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series team owner Rick Ware and American professional stock car road racing driver Kevin O’Connell join national television host Eric Bolling to launch the “Race To Erase Opioids” campaign and unveil a specially-messaged & wrapped race car at the Sunday Geico 500 NASCAR race at Talladega Superspeedway in  Alabama, it was announced today.

Bolling says he’s become an “accidental expert” on opioid overdoses following the death of 19-year-old Eric Chase Bolling.

As part of an on-going national campaign, Bolling, Ware & O’Connell will draw attention to theopioids epidemic in America and its horrendousfallout on American families with a series of mediainitiatives, public service announcements, educational outreach and NASCAR race day-basedevents.

Eric Bolling has been a frontline advocate for President Trump’s war on the Opioid Crisis in America.

The former Fox News host has recently beentouring the country, warning parents and their children of the dangers of opioid use on the six-month anniversary of the death of his son from an opioid overdose in Colorado.

Six months ago, I lost my college sophomore, my only child, my son, my best friend.” To parents: ‘Not my child’ syndrome is deadly. To kids: ‘One pill can kill,’” he says.

NASCAR racing veteran Rick Ware is celebrating 35 years in the racing industry and his company, Rick Ware Racing (RWR), a leading professional motorsports marketing and branding companybased in Thomasville, NC. Among NASCAR’s veteran teams, Rick Ware Racing (RWR) has competed in every NASCAR sanctioned series, ARCA Series, the WMA Motocross Series, AMA Arenacross, Motocross and Supercross Series, Summer X-Games and IMSA.

Kevin O’Connell commented, “I have driven for RWR and produced race day  events with Rick involving companies that we have introduced to the sport of NASCAR racing.  This effort is different, as this crisis has affected many people in our lives personally from family members to close friends to the people in our communities that we meet and share this experience with.  We want to contribute to getting the word out through our sport.”

In 2018, more than two million Americans will suffer from addiction to opioids and in 2017 opioids killed more people than car accidents or gun violence. Drug overdoses are now a leading cause of death and opioid-involved overdose deaths have doubled in the past 10 years.

Eric Bolling spent 15 years in the business world, at the New York Mercantile Exchange, and fromthere, he accepted a host position on CNBC’s “FastMoney.” He later moved to FOX News, where he spent 10 years as a host and co-host of numerous shows in prime time.

He is also the highly acclaimed author of two New York Times best-sellers, “Wake Up America” in 2016 and “The Swamp” in 2017.

President Trump has assigned more than $1 billionin funding to address drug addiction and the opioid crisis. More than $800 million has been distributed for prevention, treatment, first responders, prescription drug monitoring programs, recovery and other care in communities, inpatient settings, and correctionalsystems.

Dave Duell Classic presented by JEGS has an unmatched legacy among Super Stock racers
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (April 27) – The biggest Nostalgia Super Stock race in America takes place next month when the Dave Duell Classic roars to life at Beech Bend Raceway Park.
Dave Duell was a nostalgia racer himself in the 1990s, helping promote the precursor to the event that now bears his name. Duell passed away in 2005, but his son Doug and numerous other Nostalgia Super Stock racers decided to rename the race in Dave’s honor.
“He was very involved in promoting this event in the early days,” Doug said. “Dad started this race in St. Louis and he’d really built it up into a big deal before he passed away in ’05. A lot of the racers that raced in his event decided we should rename it the Dave Duell Classic to honor him.”
The Dave Duell Classic, now in its 13th year, runs May 17-20 in conjunction with the National Muscle Car Association’s Bluegrass Nationals. Doug expects 60-80 Nostalgia Super Stock cars, including his own 1964 Plymouth Station Wagon, a replica of the car his dad drove in the 1960s. That car, the renowned “Drag’n Wag’n,” has always been supported by JEGS Automotive.
“It’s a big race,” Doug Duell said. “The National Muscle Car Association kind of adopted it and they’ve been great to work with. They offer a big purse and we host a big dinner Saturday night. We run class eliminations like they do during the U.S. Nationals at Indy. The NMCA has really done a great job embracing the event and promoting it.”
Nostalgia Super Stock is limited to 1960s-era cars, with no electronics. It’s truly an “old-school” event, one that Doug says his father would be proud of.
“We own car dealerships and we’re real big on customer service,” Doug said. “When my dad was racing he always took note of how the racers were treated and how certain events were organized. When things went well he was the first one to thank the promoters and try to help them moving forward. The (Dave Duell Classic) has kind of grown that way with so many racers chipping in and it’s just been amazing. I think that’s why we get so many cars because we try to see things from the customer’s standpoint.”
Customer service is a high priority at JEGS High Performance, too. As such, JEGS remains a big part of the Dave Duell Classic.
“We really appreciate JEGS pitching in and helping out with our event,” Doug Duell said. “We really promote our sponsors at our event, and that helps make it what it is.”

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 27, 2018) – Following an American Flat Track post-event tire sampling from the Atlanta Short Track held April 8, 2018 at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga., AFT Twins competitor Jared Mees on the #1 machine has been disqualified for using a chemically altered tire.

Four tire samples from four different machines were taken after the Main Event in Atlanta, and all were submitted to an independent lab for chemical analysis. Three of the samples were deemed to be in compliance with the benchmark sample provided by Dunlop. The sample from the #1 machine ridden by Jared Mees was not in compliance, however, and indicated the presence of several chemicals known to be used in motorsports to alter tire compounds.
