After winning Rookie of the Year in 2015 in Monadnock Speedway’s Super Stock division, Whately, MA native Joel Monahan is ready to go for 2 in a row as he embarks on his rookie season in Stafford Speedway’s Late Model division behind the wheel of the #03 Monahan Trucking Chevrolet.  The 18 year old got started racing in Monadnock’s Young Guns division three seasons ago before moving up to Mini Stocks and then the Super Stocks. As the 2015 Mr. Rooter Truck Series season came to an end, Ellington native Bert Ouellette was on a hot streak, winning 3 of the final 5 races.  As teams prepare for the 45th Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler® at Stafford Speedway, Ouellette is looking to put his #151 Cindy Burdick Motorsports Chevrolet in NAPA Victory Lane for a wide variety of reasons after finishing third in the truck race as part of last year’s NAPA Spring Sizzler®. Garrett Hall takes his first ever PASS Pro All Star Super Late win at Thompson’s Icebreaker

Garrett Hall of Scarborough, Maine nailed down his first-ever Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model victory in the 75-lap season opener for the PASS North Tour, also offering National Championship points, Sunday afternoon at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

 

Hall, driving his Quinn’s Insulation car, numbered 94, outgunned early race leader Trevor Sanborn of East Parsonsfield, Maine midway through the race to claim the top spot after an extended, spirited battle.  He then held off a determined challenge from Hudson, New Hampshire’s Derek Griffith, aboard the LCM Racing 12, to post the win. Tim Solomito’s dream came true at Thompson’s Icebreaker

Timmy Solomito’s dreams came true Sunday afternoon.

 

The 24-year-old from Islip, New York, ran away with the 42nd Annual Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park to secure his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory. Solomito powered past former champion and current NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Ryan Preece to lead the final 34 laps of the Icebreaker 150 en route to the checkered flag. Continue reading

Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park kicked off its 2016 season in style on April 9th with its first series of races as part of the 42nd Annual Icebreaker weekend. In addition to setting the field for Sunday’s events, including the season opener for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, day one of racing was highlighted by a 20-lap feature for the NEMA Lites which offered plenty of competitive racing action to kick off their 2016 season.The event started smooth for front row starter Ryan Bigelow, who engaged in an intense battle with Jim Chambers through the first five laps of the event before their battle for the lead resulted in contact on turn four. The incident forced an early retirement for both drivers and Anthony Nocelia who was also collected in the wreck and changed the complexion of an already competitive race by taking out the two strongest cars in the early going.Their misfortune worked to the benefit of Dan Cugini who, after experiencing mechanical issues in the heat races worked his way to the front and took the lead on lap 12. Cugini would dominate the rest of the race and claim his first ever win at Thompson Speedway and what he considers one of the biggest trophies of his career so far. Continue reading

Between the 2010 and 2014 seasons on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Bobby Santos, III was the driver to beat when it came to racing at Stafford Speedway.  In the 20 NWMT races held during that time period, Santos won 6 times, including 3 NAPA Spring Sizzlers® and he won 9 pole positions.  Enter the 2015 season and Santos and the #44 Tinio Corporation / Curb Records team saw their performance fall off at the Connecticut half-mile facility with a best finish of 5th.  With the green flag in the 45th Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler® right around the corner, Santos is excited about returning to Stafford and looking to get back to his winning form behind the wheel of the #44 Tinio Corp. / Curb Records Chevrolet. After an extremely successful start to the southern season, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model North season will kickoff this weekend with “The Icebreaker” at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut.  “The Icebreaker” is doubly important as it will mark the halfway point of the PASS National Championship Series, which will once again crown Super Late Model racing’s only true national champion. Mall shows in northern New England are very popular during the pre-season such as the show at Rutland Vermont’s Diamond Mall.

Winter might be trying to make a late surge in Vermont, but rest assured that the stock car racing season is on its way.   Race fans can head indoors on April 9-10 for a sneak preview of the 2016 season at Devil’s Bowl Speedway at the Diamond Run Mall in Rutland, Vt., as the track again participates in the annual Rutland Regional Racecar Show to benefit the March of Dimes and March for Babies charities.

This weekend’s Icebreaker at Thompson Motor Sports Park in Connecticut will be the start of the 2016 New England racing season that features the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Triple Crown races for Limited Sportsman, Mini Stocks, Pro All Star Series, NEMA Midget Lites, New England Street Stock Tour, New England Trucks, Pro 4 Modifieds, Lite Modifieds and Vintage Outlaw Series.  All qualifying goes today, Saturday, with some features later in the afternoon.  The remaining features will go tomorrow, Sunday.
