MILTON READS! Dead Wake, The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson

 

Dead wakeThe Milton Public Library recently kicked off the 2016 Milton Reads season, with the selection of Dead Wake, the Last Crossing of the Lusitania by  Erik Larson.  A page turning account of how the Lusitania was sunk in 1915 by a German U-boat, which covers in suspenseful detail, World War I, nautical strategies and the personalities of those involved in the attack and sinking of the famous Cunard liner.  The entire town of Milton is encouraged to read this selection as part of its annual literacy event sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.  Related events will be held throughout March and are listed below.  Also, the library’s calendar with more program details including a complement of programming for children, can be viewed on the Library’s website. Milton Reads is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.

“Based on the number of copies  our patrons have borrowed, I would say the book is proving to be a very popular selection,” noted Library Director Will Adamczyk.   Copies of the book can be picked up at the Library, or electronic versions can be ordered at the Library’s website www.miltonlibrary.org.

The events phase of Milton Reads will begin on Tuesday, March 15 at 7pm, with a book discussion, led by Will Adamczyk.

On Sunday, March 20, the Annual Milton Reads Trivia Night takes place from 5-7pm at Ester, in Dorchester.  Advance registration at the Library’s website is required for Trivia.

On Monday, March 21 at 2pm, Fuller Village will host Boston University Professor William Keylor who will speak about world events leading up to World War I.

On Wednesday, March 23, at 7pm, the National Geographic documentary “The Last Voyage of the Lusitania” will be screened at the Library, and on Tuesday, March 29 at 7pm, Milton Reads “Closing Chapter” will feature Commandant David Kohnen, of the Naval War Academy in Newport, RI, who will talk about the military intelligence surrounding the sinking of the Lusitania.
