Nov. 6: Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, Wendy Johnson

Hikers and adventurers!  On Thursday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. Wendy Johnston will give a presentation about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, which runs 2,700 miles from the US/Mexican border to the Canadian border through California, Oregon, and Washington (the same trail that Cheryl Strayed wrote about in her book Wild).  The free lecture is open to all and will be held in the Keys Community Room, lower level of the Milton Public Library at 476 Canton Avenue in Milton, MA.

Wendy Johnson will share the lessons she learned on her long hikes, and she hopes to inspire people to step outside their comfort zone and go after what makes them come alive.

 

Nov. 1: Free piano concert with David Polansky at Milton Library

On Saturday November l at 2:00, all are welcome to enjoy a free concert with singer and pianist extraordinaire David Polansky in a program entitled “Music Through the Ages” in the Keys Community Room, lower level of the Milton Public Library at 476 Canton Avenue in Milton, MA.

Join us for a musical journey through one hundred years of the American Popular Songbook.  Using keyboard, trumpet and vocals, David brings alive the music of Berlin, Gershwin, Cohan and a host of others.  Music from the Roaring 20s, the Big Band and Swing Eras, Broadway and the Wild West will get you on your feet!   To learn more about the talented and entertaining David Polansky, visit his website.

Take a musical trip back in time!  A free concert, “Music Through the Decades,”  will showcase pop music in America from 1895 through 1960 (The Gay ’90’s, the Roaring ’20’s, Broadway, and the eras of Big Band and Swing, and much more!).  Musician David Polansky pleases everyone!

On Sunday, November 1, 2014 families can enjoy a 2 p.m. fall concert in the Keys Community Room, lower level at the Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA  02186.

David Polansky is an accomplished trumpet player in constant demand throughout the New England area. Over the years he has worked with Arthur Fiedler, Sandler and Young, Phyllis Diller, Henny Youngman, Ray Bolger and others.

Oct. 28: Haunted History of New England at the Milton Library

Celebrate Halloween!  On October 28 at 7 p.m. discover the “Haunted History of New England” with lecturer and historian Christopher Daley. This intriguing presentation melds historical fact together with legend and myth to produce a fascinating look at events which really happened and the stories of haunting that followed them.  The program will be held in the Keys Community Room of the Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA  02186.  Learn about other events on the Milton Library’s website.  Admission is free and the event is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.

Monday Night at the Movies continues at the Milton Library! On Monday, October 27th enjoy the Oscar nominated film “Argo“. This movie is about Iranian rebels in 1979 who surround the American embassy, taking all staff members hostage…well, not quite all.   The film is based on a true story and is rated R for some language and some violent images.  Argo won “Best Picture” at the 2013 Academy Awards.   It is not suitable for children and will start promptly at 6:30 in the Keys Community Room, lower level at the Milton Public Library. 476 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.

Oct. 18: Travelers! Road Scholar comes to the Milton Library

Attention: Travelers!  Explore the world of Road Scholar on Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m in the Keys Community Room of Milton Public Library, lower level, 476 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.  This not-for-profit leader in educational travel since 1975 offers 5500 educational tours in all 50 states and 150 countries. Admission is free to the public.

Oct. 16: Author Suzanne Strempak Shea, “This is Paradise: An Irish Mother’s Grief, An African Village’s Plight and the Medical Clinic That Brought Fresh Hope to Both

On Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 7 p.m. author Suzanne Strempak Shea will talk about her biographical book called This is Paradise:  An Irish Mother’s Grief, An African Village’s Plight and the Medical Clinic that Brought Fresh Hope to Both.  This is the story of a former guidance counselor from County Kerry Ireland who founded a medical clinic in Malawi in memory of her son, which has provided aid for over 275,000 people.  Come hear this inspiring story!  Hear Ms. Strempak Shea speak at the Keys Community Room of Milton Public Library, lower level, 476 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.  Admission is free to the public.  For more events information visit the MPL website:  www.miltonlibrary.org
