April 26: Free a cappella concert – Boston Jazz Voices at the MPL

Boston Jazz Voices

The talented a cappella vocal group called Boston Jazz Voices will give a free, one-hour concert on Saturday, April 26th at the Milton Public Library.  From 2-3 PM, this 15-piece ensemble will entertain with jazzy, swinging standards and more.  It should be a fun concert, as the group offers its audience a unique combination of classic sounds plus contemporary jazz vocal idiom.  Their membership consists of talented musicians from all backgrounds and age groups, and yet they are all dedicated to the same mission: to perfect the vocal jazz ensemble, and to capture the spirits of those who hear them.  They share a love for the same ensemble vocal jazz singing that their predecessors dreamed about.  Building on a foundation of Gene Puerling’s amazing arrangements, they have added equally stunning arrangements from director Tsunenori “Lee” Abe, as well as other very gifted musicians.  Beginning with a classic tune, or even a modern one, they’ll add swinging rhythms and unexpected harmonies to transform it into something new!  The American songbook comes alive with close harmony, Disney takes on 5-part scatting, the Beatles are updated in 5/4 rhythm, and Motown gets a new life in Samba style.

This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library, and light refreshments will be served.  It is appropriate for all ages, so bring the family, and enjoy this entertaining presentation.  The Keys Community Room is located on the lower level and the library’s address is 476 Canton Avenue, Milton.  Visit the library’s website, www.miltonlibrary.org, or contact Reference Librarian Jean Hlady at jhlady@ocln.org or by calling 617 698-5757.
