April 12: “Steve Jobs,” Free movie at the MPL

The Milton Library’s Tuesday Night At the Movies offers a free screening of Steve Jobs, starring Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet.  The movie starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. Come to the Keys Community Room, lower level of the Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.  Admission is free and the event is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.  Refreshments will be served.

Both actors were nominated for Academy Awards this year in this excellent biopic of the tech giant, and the film is rated R for language.  The running time is 2 hours, 3 minutes and it is not suitable for children.

April 12: Story Slam! Theme: Parents at Common Market in Quincy hosted by MPL

Storytellers, wow us at Story Slam!  Share a tale or cheer your friends on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m.  The format is similar to NPR’s The Moth where each participant tells a true tale in five minutes.

The theme is rich: PARENTS.

Location:  Upstairs (room on the right with the bar!) at The Common Market Restaurant, 97 Willard Street in Quincy, MA, co-sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library and Andrea Lovett, creator of South Shore Story Slams.  Advance registration is required on the Milton Library’s website, www.miltonlibrary.org  A $10 fee from all attendees will be collected at the door.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a limit of 10 storytellers.  Performers, sign up upon arrival and names will be drawn randomly.  Prizes!

The champion will go on to perform at the Grand Slam Story Slam on May 7, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton.  Visit www.fullercraft.org for more information.

Host Andrea Lovett is a 2012 Oracle winner, a regional service and leadership award for outstanding storytelling work in the community. Ms. Lovett is a co-founder of Massmouth and the creator of South Shore Story Slams.

Co-host Suzette Standring won second place in 2015 at the MPL and was invited by Boston Comedy Chicks to perform her story.
