What a Surprise

Okay, here we are, as I type, 10 days before an election that could have dangerous results. That is, if the Republican nominee was to win the election. Yesterday, the FBI director James Comey revealed that there could be more emails that could have implications on the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private server.

I really don’t believe Comey did this because of any partisan motives. He would probably have done the same thing if it had been a Republican in a similar situation. Of course, Comey is himself a Republican, kept on by President Obama as the director of the agency. Comey is probably bending over backwards trying to be fair, and it was probably a tough decision for him and his advisers. Having said that, the whole situation shows the perils of keeping somebody from the opposing party on in a new administration. I would guess Obama kept Comey on as a visible gesture to the Republicans that he intends to make his appointments on merit, and not on their political affiliation. I think that it is possible that this backfired on Obama. He went into office naively thinking that he could appease the Repubs by making moves to the center. He kept Defense Secretary Bob Gates on as well, and Gates ended up writing a tell-all book critical of Obama. The problem is that, if you keep a holdover from an opposition party, they don’t feel any loyalty to the administration they are serving, and they will think of themselves and their fortunes and/or career first. Of course, that could happen anyway, but this scenario makes it more likely.

In the end, all President Obama’s efforts to appease the Repubs only emboldened them. Their philosophy was, and is, what is mine is mine and what is yours is negotiable. They were never going to meet our President halfway, or even one-quarter of the way. So, while Director Comey didn’t try to mess with the election, he wasn’t inclined to support his superiors of the opposing party either. So, in any close call, Comey would, maybe not even realizing it, make a decision that favors his own political affiliation. Similar to the Supreme Court in that way, perhaps.

I highly doubt that this new batch of emails will be worth anything at all. It just gives Trump a new platform to spout vicious nonsense about. It behooves Comey to very, very quickly move to show what these emails are about. to stop the demagoguery. If he does not do that, he is no better than any other traitor to his government.

This Is Crazy

As I watch the sands of the hourglass sifting down to Election Day, I am reflecting on what a sorry state our country is in. I’m not going to do a false-equivalence blog. The problem is almost entirely the doing of the Republican Party. Those clowns are twisting themselves into pretzels, almost literally, trying to justify the nominee of their party, Donald Trump. They are darkly comical. They “support the nominee” but they won’t name him and they don’t endorse him. Now that Trump’s shocking, shocking misogynistic comments on the tour bus have been released, things are going from bad to worse. See, they now realize that the VP candidate, Pence, is more Presidential than the presidential candidate is. So the big shots of the party are fervently wishing and hoping to get Trump the hell out of the way and let Mike Pence be the top of the ticket. But the ballots have already been printed and early voting is underway. So the only people who stand to gain for that effort are the lawyers, because there would be lawsuits going on in every state.

Who the hell did Reince Priebus and the rest of the clowns think that Donald Trump was? Even though the tape was not from Stern’s show, Trump has been on that envelope-pushing, borderline obscene, extremely poor taste Howard Stern radio show many times. What did they think was discussed by Trump and Stern and the rest of Stern’s crew? Old Testament bible passages? The truth is, both Stern and Trump represent a low form of humor, crass, sexist and materialistic. The only thing that surprises me is that it has taken all this time for a tape like this to turn up. If the news media had been doing its job, this or similar items would have been aired by this time last year.

It really is a sad state of affairs. We have a major political party that has been in trouble for a while. The Republicans have stood for the enrichment of the wealthy, the disenfranchisement of the poor and minorities, and the further impoverishment of the poor. A reverse Robin Hood-ing, if you will. Steal from the poor and give to the rich. Comfort the comfortable and screw the uncomfortable. Put party and career over country always, in every single solitary instance.

I think that our next president will be Hillary Clinton. Trump might form a new party or start his own media center. Our country is going to have to face some uncomfortable truths. The seditious, treasonous behavior of the Republican party ought to consign them to the dustbin of history, alongside the Whigs and the Know-Nothings. If they go down, Trump will have performed a public service by exposing these clowns for who and what they really stand for.
